Final review unless there is any new content/DLC added at a future date:
I originally rated this as negative and part of me still not entirely sure how I feel. However, I think after getting 2/3 endings and letting it sit with me for 2 days, I think my view has indeed changed. I do think on a first playthrough, I feel like you will get frustrated.

Pros:
- The lore. I believe it is the strongest aspect of this game. I believe Steel Wool learned how to do the more open world-y concept with environmental storytelling but containing it so you actually know what is the story vs just the environment. I know some people have major issues with the lore. I think this is a game you do need to go out of your way to collect all the messages/recordings to get that story. If you do that, I think you will really enjoy the story. I can understand it being bland if you go out of your way to *not* collect them. Do keep in mind that information presented in this game + things established prior (applying to Henry and William's past) can both be true. I do not believe this game ruins anything established with Henry and William. I think people are just misinterpreting what the game is saying. I think consumers are too used to surface level things and aren't actually thinking that much about what is being told to you. I've always been more of a lore guy anyways when it comes to FNAF
- The designs of the characters and environment I think was done very well. I know some people complained about Jackie not being more of a prominent character but I think that's the point. It's not about Jackie. It never WAS about Jackie. It's ALWAYS been about the Mimic. Keep that in mind when you go through this game if you read this prior to playing. Similar to the point before, I think it's fascinating to see how aspects in this game influenced the later part of the timeline.
- I do think this game did succeed in stressing me out (especially towards the end in the tunnels). I can understand if someone doesn't find it scary but scary and fear and stress are all subjective feelings. I'd argue this leans into psychological horror.
- This game is more punishing to certain actions and I think Steel Wool did learn from criticism of Security Breach and Ruin as well.

Neutral:
- I encountered one bug where a threat got stuck. It made the section easier so I am not sure if I should be mad about that ha. I did NOT have any of the performance issues many other people were having. Maybe frame drops occasionally but it did not take away from the experience. I also did not experiences any soft/hardlocks or out of bounds moments or crashes. I do not see the issue with this game being locked at 60 FPS. I think that is a really weird complaint to be making? But that's just me.
- Some of the enemy AI is a little weird at times and I think the sound needs to be turned down a little bit and better reflect where they actually are.

Cons:
- Some gameplay mechanics such as picking up/dropping items, interacting with stuff that needs to be turned, the stupid crane puzzles are all indicators to me that this game was intended for VR. While I do recommend this game, I think if you have a VR and are willing to wait to play, do that. I think you might have a better time playing as it was intended. I do not think the gameplay was necessarily for me but I do not think that is the game's fault.
- I think Steel Wool might've went too far in the other direction after hearing criticisms of Gregory and Cassie talking too much (especially Cassie). I think its a bit of a shame we didn't get more of Arnold speaking. Instead we got his intense breathing the entire time. I think I would've preferred a speaking character here.
- I really wish there was a map. I am not saying a map to show me every single room and door. Simply the map that appears on the consoles might've been nice. Sometimes the mission objective sentence isn't entirely clear where you're actually supposed to be and I think it might've been helpful

For a demo, I think it definitely peaks my interest for the full game!
I think I am a little disappointed there wasn't more and I wish I could see the map develop a bit more as we add stuff but I know it's just a demo! I'm sure that once we have full access to all the other missions and leader types and scenarios, it'll be really fun! I'm hoping for a longer story line and more events to happen when it does fully release.
As it is in this moment, I am going to remain neutral and acknowledge it is a demo.

(Never wrote a review for the game for a year...wow)

I guess I will do an update of this (1/18/2021)
I think the main problem with the game is the division between killer mains and survivor mains, which creates the toxicity. If you want to have fun, just play the way you want and play both sides to understand why they do what they do. Then you're more like "if that's what they have to do, I get it" rather than "omg you're so bad" or some other toxic comment. I like for survivor salt because of how ridiculous it is and how its clear they've never played killer in their life.
Still recommend the game tho.

Early Access Review
August 18th: *Dabs*
May 31st: When Deathgarden first released it wasn't great. There were some problems and things in the game didn't keep a player base for more than a month. Now, since it's re-release, people are playing more and more. Although it sucks that Scavengers die instantly, it's still very fun to play, even if I die 90% of the time. Still a great game!

At first, it's confusing for people who do not know the roles and how to claim, make wills ect. The game teaches you how to play your role and seeing other people play (in games, on YouTube, anywhere else) can help learn how to play specific roles. The wiki for ToS is really helpful for people who struggle. I recommend this game to anyone.
