Early Access Review
Fairly deep casual fighter combat with good controls, low barrier to entry, and very high skill ceiling? I dig.

At the moment, I truly can't recommend this one unless you're prepared for a very rough ride and just need a quick noir fix. Obviously it's an early preview, but even so it's really, really rough. The visuals are great, and what audio is in there is, as well... but beyond that I'm not sure. Few of the game interactions feel developed or polished, from what seemed like UI glitches down to dialogue trees that frankly felt like they had no consequence... you could say anything and still end up in the same place, which is disappointing given the genre/themes. I get the impression that this is a "one path forward" design so far, and that's a disappointment. The UX wasn't responsive and often required lots of unnecessary clicks... sometimes I'd find that I had picked up items without knowing it. The music and background effects that are in there are great mood so far, but it's also currently missing a LOT of more foreground effects for everything from conversations to doors opening to passing cars, all of which make the world feel strangely empty and distant.

In short, this feels like a pre-alpha, pre-prologue. The story and world have a lot of potential and could be interesting, but I hope that a LOT more development is going into this to do justice to the incredible visual vibes.

I'll look into this one again much further down the road with the hopes that all of this work is very much on the roadmap.

A beautiful, aching game. Dripping with tone and nuance and possibility, this is the only CRPG I can think of that has actually *felt* like roleplaying. The world of Revachol is small but deep. It's politics are thinly referential, but its that familiarity that makes it immediate, rich and biting and funny and cruel. The characters feel like people who matter, and therefore the choices you make for them do too. I started out my exploration as a rock'n'roll superstar cop who liked listening to neckties and saying things like "♥♥♥♥ carousel" a lot, but by a few hours in I had found that Disco Elysium had captured me with the humanity of its people, and my choices became more considerate and, well, real. The writing is truly top-notch, which is good, because you'll be reading an awful lot of it. It's a slow, ponderous, curious game -- and if that sounds at all interesting to you then you owe it yourself to check it out. With any luck, this is one of those games that makes a profound impact in other games to come.
