If you remember when DQ3 first came out on NES, you need to get this. If you don't remember when DQ3 first came out, you need to get this.

Such a beautifully done remaster of the game. I good 50 hour playthrough, or if you want to do everything/everything a couple hundred hours should get it done.

The post-game stuff is decent too.

I played the original on SNES probably a million times, and just started on this (only through the first Nashe zone), but WOW! So far, it's wonderful. The music is next level (I admit I own the SNES soundtrack), they nailed the graphics and I love the "speed up" battle feature. Can't wait to explore full game and max some characters with speed and economizers and such.

10/10 - For a remake of a game that was originally 10/10

Fantastic remaster, but man, this game is not good at it's core. I just don't know what they were thinking, and I played all of an hour before giving up (since I couldn't figure out the very first quest chain and got stuck). Levels are not clear, you can wander a little off path and get insta-killed by monsters, and I was given a quest to bring a ring to someone and once I got it to them, the story stopped progression, so no idea what to do.

Perfectly captures the nostalgia while making some quality of life improvements to the game. I so loved playing through it, and can't wait to try a different setup of heroes. Hoping to find some secret post-game content or challenges, but if not, it's still fantastic.

Overall, simple game, some missing polish, but overall a good challenge and enjoyable to play/beat. Had fun, needed to win everything, so spent more than 20 hours on it. For the cost, worth the money, hope they add some finishing touches in the future.

Pros:
- Learn as you play style, so it doesn't hold your hand
- Simple mechanics and graphics
- Challenging (you will lose a couple times)
- Makes you feel successful early on

Cons: (almost all have to with polish and all are just minor tweaks)
- A bit slow at times (skipping to night time just skips time, doesn't fast track the day for resources or new recruits arriving)
- Poor path finding, little or no AI from the units
- Buildings can be built in places they shouldn't, or can't be built in places they should
- If you buy pine trees fast enough from the merchant you can stack them in one place
- Micromanagement of units required (which caps at 81, so at full strength can get tedious)
- Attempt at humor in some descriptions misses the mark most of the time
- Need to kill your new recruits over and over to get the RNG to give you a useful "perk", same for the legendary minions

Very good game, wonderful expansion on the previous versions. I loved the new different play types and the game is worth buying (from my view) for the local coop alone. We did experience some crazy bugs from time to time, so be aware. We had one level that never spawned a needed building so, it became impossible to fully-fully complete, but was fun nonetheless.

Update - Wish they would fix the bugs. Also I take issue with "full controller support" when we can't get it to recognize or play with any of our controllers (2 of them are steam controllers). It used to work, they used to be fine, but now it's keyboard only. Still beautiful and fun and Kingdom, but they could do some patches to get it back in functional mode.

Another Update - Figured out the controllers issue, more user error than game problem. I still think it's a great game, but hope they keep working out the bugs. Local Co-op is still the strongest selling point.

5/5, wonderfully crafted and amazingly beautifully designed game. The game ranges from calm to crazy, as you progress and fight against time. This is a must-have game. Beautiful art, simple control, but challenging, and an occassional fun holiday themed adaptation. I could probably play it not stop for days.

I know I checked "no" on recommendation, but I still loved this game! Bottom line is, it's about 90% complete and has some holes that will drive you a bit crazy, but the 90% that is done is excellent, fun, challenging, creative, etc. I logged about 24 hrs total play time and will likely not play it again, because I did everything you can in the game. I wish the developer would take another crack at it, fix some of the bugs, and finish some of the features that never showed up. This game could have been a staple of excellent indie games.

Super fun, good multi-hour entertainment, but yes, it's got some gaps/glitches/issues that keep you from coming back after a while.

4/5 overall. The game has some wonderful elements of gameplay. We played it for lots of hours trying to unlock every ship. Once every ship was unlocked...nothing left to do. I was excited to get like 7th in the world on a 2 player game! I played almost entirely 2 player, with my kids, so it aht regard it was fun for us. Once you master dodging the heck out of things it gets more enjoyable. So on the one hand, enjoyable and difficult and good for 2 player Co-op. Highlight of the game is the Epic Bosses which are extemely well done graphically and mechanically. My hat is off to the developers in that regard.

The rest of this review is the things I didn't like:

The game relies heavily on the three (or 4) randomly generated upgrades between levels. Some games you hit all the right stuff each board and dominate, other games you get all the wrong stuff and die off in the fourth level-quickly. In this way, the later boards seemed more about luck, than skill.

Some upgrades are a must have (which is frustrating) in order to survive the later levels. Battering Ram, for example, you need because it allows you several seconds of invincibility and cool down is like 6 seconds. Without it, you just die fast.

Some of the ships are useless unless they get their ship-unique upgrades (homing), which makes it frustrating if they don't show up in the random cycle. Wish they would make them default, or just offer them every level as an option.

The Digit ship actually has an upgrade that lowers the ships effectiveness (auto-aiming), which makes you wonder if they completely play tested them.

The hardest ship to get (and last one we unlocked) is a rail-gun shooting mistake that has nothing going for it. We tried, we had other player carry it to later boards to make sure we got all the upgrades and it simply sucked in so many ways, weak defense, weak offense, i don't know what they were after on this.

Would like the Ultimate shots to come more often, maybe change the mechanic that drives them (like using combos to earn your ultimate meter instead of the orange orbs).

But, for all my complaining, we did get 34 hours of fun time with me and the boys as we struggled through to unlock the ships.

Cute fun game, but controller support is bugged. It plays ok single player on keyboard, but local co-op (which is what I bought it for), falls apart because it doesn't like the game pads I have :(
Aside from my gripes about controllers, game is fun and cute and recommended for a good ol fashion fighting adventure.
