updating my review for good measure.

sony went back after the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with account linking.

the game is a definitive goty with how it is now (again) and i can wholeheartedly recommend buying yourself in to spread some good old democracy.

glad they did. for future titles i'd still recommend being very careful if you see sony being a publisher. they might bait and switch anytime again.

now get back in there soldier. those automatons wont liberate themselves!

another mismanaged game. developer doesnt give a flying ♥♥♥♥ about their community and flips them off even after 2 solid days of a complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and literally no support for implementing EAC. patch got pushed anyways and a lot of people can no longer play. good job Tupper and your dev gang.

I've been playing this series for almost 20 years now. i did countless replays with friends, did marathons. and finally SS4 released.

The good:
gameplay wise this is still serious sam. so its high octane action, shooting scarab lords and headless suicide bombers running at you screaming like steve-o after getting shot in the balls.

gameplay wise, this is also the most diverse and interactive title in the seri(ou)s so far.
of course you get the staple run and gun levels as in every classic serious sam.

whats after you ask? one word: vehicles.
ive never seen an open world in serious sam. well ss4 has it. its a level still though, so you can blast through or take a little more time, but it will come to an end anyways.

i dont know if im alone with this, but usually i feel like its fairly easy to judge when a serious sam title is close to ending, due to how intense the battles get. this boundary has been pushed for ss4. i thought im at the end, but it got crazier and more intense. its a little like watching one punch man without knowing how many episodes the season is going to have.

Sound design is awesome again. stereo sound works well as im used to in serious sam.

the bad:
- its not all smooth sailing sadly. some cutscenes are super choppy. like unwatchable choppy. theres times where you dont see a new picture for 15 seconds. we were sitting in coop and were both like "okay". this is not machine dependent but seems to be a bug.

- also had one crash so far. my buddy switched form vulcan to d3d mid game. after i rejoined his game, my game appcrashed into oblivion. he had to restart his game to fix the issue. since then, no more problemos on the technical end.

- Last but not least: progress for the second player in a coop session is not saved.
so if you do a sidequest with both clients and receive a new gun as a reward, you likely wont have that gun anymore as the joining player once you reconnect. i was missing a gun for a while until i got it in one level due to natural progression agan.

Should you play this?
yes.

as a non SS fan?
is there such a thing? fast paced mass slaughter of aliens should be a taste everyone has once in a while.

worth full price?
pricing it at 40 bucks is fair in my opinion. if you dont have the budget, wait for a sale but i'd say its worth it if you are looking for some good coop times

This game is gonna be good on next year's summer sale...
...given that they manage to fix the bugs until then. its been 2 weeks. people cant play online, singleplayer is not enjoyable due to a double speed bug. its a mess.
avoid bamco games until they go on sale.

fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden had a love child and its called FrenzyRetribution.

The only downside is, its quite short. Quite challenging until the very end though, rewarding and fun action brawler. Since its free2play deffo give it a shot, if not play through it. Be sure not to set the body limit to never, since its gonna get laggy at times.

Well, what to say, what to say.
Dark souls 2, bought it day one, was disappointed terribly. I liked dark souls 1, never played demon souls and felt the first one of the series was way better. The why is pretty simple. I feel like they took the first one, added a few improvements and, at the end of the line, they added cheap traps. Sure you could argue that traps were a deal in dark souls 1, but it kinda got really cheap in ds2. exploding bodies in a cell you cant look into due to space is the kind of cheap iam talking about. i was blown away by the difficulty i had to face in the prequel, would have loved more difficulty in terms of enemies and bosses, maybe a few new puzzles. Instead i get a very mediocre game. The bossmechanics are nothing special.
With the news on the front of them releasing a GOTY soon adds additional salt to the mix. If you really want to play the game, wait until that one is released to get the full experience - if not move on, maybe play the first game of the series and find other games to invest your money in.
