The first part of this review is spoiler-free, and only references things in a way that people that haven't seen what I am referencing will not understand what it means.

This is an amazing game. From exploring to collecting coal and moss and the such to overcoming darkness and so much more, this game was very fun to follow along. The best part is, nothing is required of you. Not just in a skill sense, but in a game play sense too. Want to sit in the Shade's room for 400 days straight and do nothing? Go ahead. Nothing is stopping you. You can play just a few minutes of this game and beat it, or you can play hundreds of hours reading books and exploring the caves you inhabit. I recommend not looking anything up, as experiencing everything yourself is what I believe this game is about and it kind of ruins the whole experience if you look it up. However, if you want to, go ahead. Like I said, you are not bound to anything. There is no pride lost in looking up what this green mushroom does when you eat it or how to grow these patches of moss over here, because it is *your* game to experience how *you* want to experience it. I personally did look up a certain mushroom puzzle since I couldn't really figure it out, and there's no shame in that because this isn't a game that asks you to be good at anything. This is a game about choice and patience. To commit a sin? To defy the king? To wait here at the bottom of the world? To experience a wonder? It's all your choice, it's whatever you want. That's what tells me that this is an amazing game.

! ! Spoilers below ! !

I have only 1 criticism; the fire. Specifically lapis lazuli fire. I had left my game for a few days and came back too late to be there for the Shade's birthday, so late in fact that there were only 4 days left. I went to the crystal cave area with the water to see what gift waited for me there since the face in the wall told me that on my birthday I would get a present there, and I found that the water was now blocked by a singing crystal and there were lapis lazuli at the bottom of the now-dried pond. I picked them up and finally made a blue fire, happy to know that it rewinds time. Of course I tried playing the instrument, and it rewound time 10 minutes every time I played the fast forward melody. It took me a very long time of just lighting the fire, playing the music and lighting fire, repeating this annoying process to get back to day 35. I am very glad that the mechanic exists, but there has to be a way to make it less grindy. That isn't what this game is. This game isn't Runescape, that's not what I played it for.

My suggestion to fix this annoyance is this; when the blue fire is lit time still passes the same as it does forward, just backwards. This means that if time goes at a rate of 20 in-game seconds every 1 real second, it rewinds 20 in-game seconds every real second. This would've made the annoying process go by so much faster, and I wouldn't have been so annoyed at it. Instead of 2-3 hours every minute the fire is lit, at least for my comfort level in the Shade's home it would go 2-3 hours (the music) + 20 minutes (passive time). This doesn't sound that much faster, but when you scale it up to rewinding 31 days it adds up. This goes from about 6 hours of clicking back and forth to 4 hours. Those 2+ hours make a huge difference.
