Graphics & Atmosphere
Visually, Avowed makes a good impression. It's not a technical marvel for 2025, but definitely not ugly. The world is colorful and atmospheric. A big advantage over Skyrim: There are no constant loading screens. Only when entering large areas, during cutscenes, or when fast-traveling do you get a loading screen – this makes exploration much more enjoyable.

Connection to the Pillars of Eternity World
I’ve never played Pillars of Eternity, but that doesn’t seem to be necessary. So far, there have been no issues understanding the story or the world – the game stands on its own and is easy to enjoy.

Companions & Interactions
A big plus: The companions are more than just followers. They have their own opinions and comment on your decisions in quests or dialogues with story-relevant NPCs. I can't say yet whether romantic relationships like those in Skyrim can develop. Unfortunately, you can only take two companions with you at a time, which somewhat limits the group dynamic.

Combat System
The combat feels really good. Strikes have a noticeable weight, and there’s solid feedback when you land hits. Whether in melee or ranged combat, the animations are fluid, and the fights have a satisfying, heavy rhythm. Especially in first-person view, it feels very immersive.

Magic System
In addition to enchanted weapons like swords, axes, or bows, there are also classic spells. Unlike in Skyrim, these aren’t cast directly from your hand but activated through a spellbook. This adds a unique dynamic to the gameplay since you have to choose and use spells intentionally, rather than having them permanently equipped.

Gameplay & Freedom
The level of decision-making freedom is high: While you choose a background story at the beginning (what you’re known for), this only affects dialogue options – not your skills. So, you can be a scholar who mows down enemies with an enchanted two-handed sword. What’s especially cool: The levels aren’t just linear – often, there are alternative paths to take, like entering a building without needing a key or lockpicks.

Story & Setting
You play a god-like figure sent by the emperor to Eora to investigate – and ideally eliminate – a mysterious disease. However, instead of being welcomed with open arms, you get caught up in a web of political intrigue, the threat of the disease, and a mysterious voice that follows you.

No Open World – But Not Restrictive
If you're expecting a typical open-world game, you might be surprised: Avowed focuses on larger, interconnected areas rather than one giant world. But these areas are neither small nor overly linear. There’s always something to discover, and if you spot a locked chest, there’s always a way to reach it. What’s particularly striking: The game is very colorful – not dark and realistic, but vibrant and lively.

NPCs & World Liveliness
Here, there are both positives and negatives. While your companions are really well-written, the regular NPCs feel more like extras. They stand around, occasionally talk, but don’t really have an everyday life like in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Animals like squirrels or wild boars are present, but they’re purely decorative – no hunting opportunities or interaction.

On top of that, there’s no theft or murder system. Everything that glows is yours – you don’t have to worry about getting caught. And aside from the enemies you’re supposed to kill, NPCs are untouchable. This feels a bit artificial and more like Starfield than the immersive world of Skyrim.

Loot & Leveling System
The loot and leveling system is solid. While you shouldn’t expect a huge variety of unique items, you can upgrade your early weapons and take them with you all the way to the endgame. This motivates you to keep your favorite weapon and develop it, rather than constantly searching for something new.

Quest Design
Many quests follow classic patterns: "Go here, kill that" or "Collect this and bring it back." That sounds repetitive, but it’s usually well-wrapped in story. The main quests offer exciting twists, and even the side quests often feature interesting dialogue and moral decisions.

Performance & Technical Aspects
Technically, the game runs largely stable but not without faults. At the beginning, I had a bug with collision near cliffs – after a restart, though, the issue was fixed. Occasional crashes can happen, but so far, they’ve been the exception rather than the rule.

Voice Acting & Localization
There’s no German voice acting – not a big problem for me. After all, Rockstar has been doing this for years without anyone complaining. The English voice actors do a solid job.

Other Features & Options
The game offers many customization options, especially for the HUD. There are five difficulty levels and a cool mechanic: Even weapons you find early in the game can be upgraded and taken all the way to the endgame – so no need to constantly ditch old favorites.

Das Spiel ist sehr gut nur für Anfänger eher ungeeignet. Es gibt viele verschiedene Storywege die alles an deinem Charakter beeinflussen. Das Spiel ist eine 1+*
