After a total of 15 hours I finally finished the campaign and how this game failed to get anything from "The 'Game' Awards" is beyond me.

This game has got anything an FPS player can possibly look for in a good game. It starts off fast, and goes even faster. The moment I click to the play button on Steam, I always found the late hours of the night still playing, it makes you want more of what it delivers to you.

I was at first in the ship of "2016 game was better" but after actually playing the game the only aspect I found worthy to compare was the soundtrack (Which sorry to say I liked 2016 one better, such masterpiece of tracks like BFG Division and Rip & Tear among many more comes only once after all.) other than that Eternal is easily better in every other aspect than 2016.

As of why Eternal is better than 2016 is a looong-going list but probably the best aspect is the refined gameplay. I used to be an Arena Shooter type of guy, have years on HLDM and so on where mobility mattered a lot in order to play good.

Rather than handing you over mindless powerful weapons, this game makes you want to earn their power, by your precision. It rewards your abilities to dodge oncoming projectiles and your ability to hit the target. It's pretty obvious but that's pretty much the main difference between the 2016 and Eternal. You can't just mindlessly blow SSG on demon's faces anymore, it's a like a really dynamic chess game requiring a decent amount of hand to eye coordination. You don't starts as a king in the campaign, you earn it.

You need to watch the lessons the game tries to give to you through the game. You have the flame belch for harvesting armor, grenades to open up space for your combat arena. Lots of well paying secrets to harvest and so on. You need to be mobile, bring up smart combos against your enemies ,get used to quickswapping etc.

Although it all sounds really exhausting for more of a casual type player, won't lie, it really is. I can understand why people struggle playing this game since it doesn't really appeal to everyone. Not because of it's artstyle or violent content or anything it's just a difficult game overall but I can't see a point on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the game just because it's above what you can handle, that's why we have difficulty levels, nobody is going to bully you for playing on "I'm too young to die" I played my first ever Doom game (original btw) on "I'm too young to die".

Overall, combat is just fantastic, after all those years it's truly something that is out of ordinary, wide selection of weaponry, upgrade systems for your comfort, meaty and punchy sound effects. It's a literal gem.

Mechanics are much more complicated, one can take it either in a good or a bad way, there's been many times when I forgot the flame belch was there or I had any grenades, We also have things like blood punch, dashing which add up to your mobility and can be used as a panic button in need.

Artstyle is a step up from 2016, there's been more times where I just stood there and watched the scenery in front of me, so much more love has been put to the job.

Lore has been expanded and game feels much more alive with newer characters, and has a decent one. Filled with plot holes here and there but It feels good to know Doom Slayer isn't just a senseless protagonist after all, he has a past behind him no matter how good or bad, also to your surprise All the past doom games (except for Doom 3) are canon now.

Anything to say about soundtrack? It's at it's finest once again, the gem of one and only, Mick Gordon!

Wonderful in every degree, a must play for modern shooters. Id Software is at it's finest after all those years, lucky of me and you to live in these times.
