While it's outshined by its superior sequel, Entropy Zero is still a really good mod, especially for Breadman's first. It can be pretty rough around the edges, but I'll always appreciate the commitment to keeping the player as a remorseless and sociopathic combine. It has a pretty Dark™ And Griddy™ Atmosphere that I still find really unique for HL mods.

Best Expansion for a game ever. Surpasses the original game in many ways. This is the true ending to FEAR.

In short, Halo: The Master Chief collection is a great deal and is definitely worth the money if you want to hop in and play some good ol' classic Halo. Keep in mind, however, that the game is pretty much still in early access.

The biggest issue with the MCC is a lack of polish. Campaign, custom games, and forge mode are still full of bugs and the multiplayer experience has been tainted by playerbase issues. Many, many times your game will either have AFK players and/or quitters who will ruin your match, and that's not including the cheaters. With a complete lack of an in-game report system and very minimal consequences for AFKing or quitting, these kinds of toxic players are encountered fairly often. If you're okay with a Halo experience that's a bit rough around the edges but still super nostalgic and fun, then you'll have a good time.

Let's be honest: People don't play CoD:WaW to play CoD:WaW; they play it to play Nazi Zombies.

It's interesting that the black sheep of the Far Cry franchise is also its best. Instead of a crazy island filled where your an action hero with tons of insane weaponry, you're an a-hole mercenary in a land of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mercenaries, who are all out to kill you. Aside from two towns, there are little to no friendly NPCs in the game. Far Cry 2 provides an intense feeling of loneliness and isolation, as well as constantly keeping you on your toes, since you're the only merc who isn't in one of the two main factions, which puts you on both of their bad sides. The story is very little, giving only a premise to your antics around the middle of Bum♥♥♥♥nowhere, Africa. You're initially sent there to kill a man known only as the Jackal, the arms dealer for both the factions. However, things quickly unravel into chaos. Outnumbered, outgunned, you're forced to work for various randoms with various interests. While the NPCs don't have a lot of personality, it makes up for it in it's world. While it isn't a post apocalypse, this is easily the bleakest far cry game out there. You're almost always outnumbered and outgunned, and on higher difficulties, only the way you approach your battles, and a little bit of luck will be able to save you. It's always a relief when your buddy shows up to save you, and no, they sadly aren't followers or companions. While it's often called "Far Drive 2" for the less fast travel and much much more driving around, it gives you time to soak in the graphics which look great even today, with the right lighting that is. It's pretty much essential to install a SweetFX mod if you don't want to look at the ugly grain filter that plagued the early 2000s. My personal recommendation is the RealAfrica SweetFX mod. And speaking of mods, it's highly recommended you use a mod such as Far Cry 2 Redux. Make sure you play on one of the higher difficulties. In conclusion, Far Cry 2, with the right mods, is one of the most bleak and lonely, yet tense and immersive open world games out there, with an amazing attention to detail and fun gun play to boot. I'd give it a Malaria pill/10.

Year Long Alarm is one my favorite mods out there, and this is coming from someone who's played a ♥♥♥♥ ton of HL2 mods. I've played it countless times even before it's steam release, and it's great to see that it's getting more of the attention and appreciation it deserves.

The Good

  • The mod flows incredibly well, especially through transitions to the different environments. It's only about half and hour but it feels a lot longer, because it flows like one singular journey, not like a bunch of different chapters.
  • Level design is superb, almost valve quality. The enemies are placed just right and the puzzles are short and to the point, and provide nice breaks from action.
  • Once you get to know them, the puzzles are simple but not quite too easy. Once you've done the first or second puzzle, you know what to look for in the others, and you probably won't get stuck on any of them, helping the flow of the mod a lot.
  • Environments look really really nice for a Half Life 2 mod and there's also some neat little environmental storytelling which is always a treat.

This mod doesn't have any main flaws, but I do have a few tiny nitpicks that really won't affect your experience whatsoever.

    The Nitpicks

  • There are only two types of puzzles in this mod, which can get a little annoying for some people. They're very simple and not hard, but some variation would've been appreciated.
  • Many of the fights are just a little bit fast and they end right when your getting into the action. Even the boss fight at the end with the gunship only lasts about 30 seconds.
  • There is no ending whatsoever. It's just the gunship crashing and then fade to black and credits. No Gordon escaping City 17 or walking off into the sunset like that.

If I had to describe this mod in three words, it'd be Short and Sweet. A great mod to play if you're looking for more Half Life 2 goodness, and if you want to get into level design, this is also a great mod to play and analyze. The man who created this, Chuck Wilson, went on to work on Titanfall 2's campaign, which says a lot. If I had to give it a score, I'd be a 9/10.
