It runs like crap! Really bad performance for mediocre visuals. Biggest gripe is ZERO support for multi-monitor setups. There is also no option to run the game borderless. So far unable to play because it's stuck on the side monitor and I'm not changing my entire setup for 5 mins of cartoons.

After 11 big updates and some fairly big changes in their dev plan, thought I'd adjust my review. Much of what I've said below was very accurate for an early ED:O however they have made great progress in addressing so many of these problems.

In addition, new content has also arrived in addition to the Odyssey expansion such as a new SRV, mission type etc. Ground conflict have been added to and feels a little more in-depth; with other players you can get the sphere of combat feel although the NPC's AI does lack a little still (they don't drive SRV's, use the jetpacks etc.).

In terms of optimisation, they game is certainly more intensive that the minimum specs indicate but you can now actually play ED:O at a respectable fps with the listed.

I'm currently enjoying my time in Odyssey and haven't actually been back to Horizons for some time now. I would first highly recommend the base game of Elite Dangerous without a single bit of hesitation and would now say that Odyssey is worth the cost on Steam for it.

Moving forward, we are yet to see exactly what's coming but it's been indicated by FDev that they have't finished with optimisation and improvements and have further additional content planned.

I've waited a little while to post a review; I didn't want it to be biased as I personally really wanted to give it a positive one and tell you all to buy it.

I'm afraid I can't do that.. This really is a mess! A lot of unhelpful reviews simply stating that in one or two words but this is born out of frustration; the game really is quite badly broken and should not have been released like it is.

I've been playing ED over a year now and have been incredibly supportive. I bought into the Alpha the moment it was announced and actually quite enjoyed that.. it felt very refined for an alpha all be it some big performance issues. Then FDev started promising that on release there would be additional content not in the alpha and it would actually run on systems of the stated minimum spec. They told us all, that the alpha does not contain all content and there would be some surprises for us.

Currently, I receive an error message (Orange Sidewinder) when trying to connect to any of the 3 Elite games in any of the available modes. This has been over a day now that this has been completely unplayable.

When it did run, it generally ran Ok for me but I have a decent machine; on my other it ran horribly, needing far more than the specs led to believe. Other than a few additional settlement layouts, there appeared to be no additional content with many of the reported (and some fixed) bugs from the alpha still present.

Simple loading the game the night before launch on a normal PC and trying to play for 15 mins would have shown most of the issues we had to wait a day for a Hotfix for. At this stage, at best this launch is embarrassing and at worst an outright violation of advertising standards with a completely defective product / service.

DO NOT buy this game for some time, I would highly suggest waiting until they have re-released a working game (yes, it really is that bad) and consider this nothing more than an early access Beta that still needs obvious work.

I'm sorry FDev, I tried but this one is on you!
