Destiny 2 is a first-person shooter game developed by Bungie and published by Activision; it is a sequel to Destiny 1 that was released in 2014. As a player who has played both games, I have mixed feelings about the game, though I will say it is still among the best games in its category. Here's my detailed review of Destiny 2.

Positive Review:

One of the first things you will notice about Destiny 2 is the game's breathtaking graphics. The game's vast, open-world setting is impressive and immersive, making players feel like they are truly exploring other planets. The game's sound effects and music heighten the gaming experience, adding a true sense of adventure. It's also well worth it to partake in the game's extensive lore by reading and watching in-game dialogue and cut scenes. One can’t help but appreciate the intricacies of the story that the developers have put into this game.

Destiny 2 has a genuinely engaging community that is both friendly and helpful, making it one of the best multiplayer games available today. The game features multiple modes such as Crucible, Gambit, Trials of Osiris, and various PvE activities that can be done solo or with friends. Among these different game modes, Gambit is my favorite. It is a unique blend of PvP and PvE activities that tests players' skills and teamwork.

The gameplay mechanics in Destiny 2 have improved significantly from the first game. The characters' movement and gunplay are smoother, making the game more enjoyable to play. The game's vast arsenal includes primary, secondary, and heavy weapons, each with its own unique perks and playstyle.

Negative Review:

However, the game's biggest drawbacks are, for the most part, directly related to its exclusive live game system and season passes, which seem to be a new norm in the industry as an attempt to expand the playing time. The game recycles old content with updates, then releases them as new content that requires a purchase. This recycling of content has led to a feeling of repetitiveness and staleness, as some players feel they are starting to play the same content repeatedly.

Additionally, some popular modes, such as Trials of Osiris, have been removed from the game, leaving behind upset players who were expecting to play it. Furthermore, players aren't readily granted all the content with a single purchase. They must purchase additional season passes to receive the remaining content.

Comparison with Destiny 1:

Comparing Destiny 2 with Destiny 1, the sequel is undoubtedly a better game overall. The graphics, mechanics, and multiplayer experience have undergone significant improvements during the several years since the first game's release. One of the most significant improvements in Destiny 2 is the game's story content, which was minimal in the first game.

Destiny 1, though still a popular game, had many issues with its design choices and content development. Destiny 2 dodged many of these issues and added additional content and value to the game that was previously not present in Destiny 1. For instance, there are now unique story missions, cut scenes, and side-activities that add depth to characters and settings.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:
- Amazing graphics and sound design
- Engaging gameplay mechanics and diverse weaponry
- Excellent multiplayer experience with a friendly and helpful community
- Vast lore
- Plenty of content and activities

Cons:
- Repetitive content recycling
- Significant content behind season passes and additional purchases.
- Payout for missing content such as Trials of Osiris.

The Conclusion:

In conclusion, Destiny 2 is a mixed bag of positives and negatives. Though it remains one of the best online games available, players need to determine if the required season pass content and repetitive game modes are worth the investment. I admit that I find it quite addictive, so taking breaks from it is necessary. The game's community is what drew me in and, at times, what keeps me playing. Nonetheless, I hope the game's developers switch up the content recycling process in future updates.
