Dread Delusion is a game that dares to dream, it asks you the question, is a potential change for the better worth the road you take to travel to it, is it worth the potential end of the world?

Despite being a bit of a buggy mess at times, I thoroughly loved my time with this game, it's not a perfect experience, but it achieved all it set out to do, and that's all a little hidden gem like this needs to be worthwhile.

Welp, I know it's been awhile since I've first played this game and I feel like I shouldn't neglect to put a review up for it.

This review will contain little in the way of spoilers for any major events or encounters in the game but be warned that if you're looking to go in blind, stick to just the Tldr.

Tldr: It's an amazing game but it's definetly not for those who are not willing to put in the effort to die, die, and die again until you improve and break through the perverbial wall that is this games learning curve and to get the satisfaction of treversing this beautiful and dark world that's dripping with atmosphere.

Dark Souls 3 has been quite the journey for me personally. Never have I appreciated a game more than this one and yet I don't feel bad admitting I messed up my equimentment a little bit in the proccess. To make this review more cohesive I'll go over things in categories (Gameplay, Multiplayer, Graphics, and the Story/World) which you can skip to depending on what you want to see.

The Gameplay:
I figured I'd get the most important one out of the way from the start. First and foremost please for the love of god don't try to use a mouse and keyboard for this, the controls are unoptimizable because of the types of inputs required and in most (if not all) cases the game flat-out shows controler input prompts even when you're using a keyboard to play. Anyways getting past the obvious, the gameplay is definetly (imo) an upgrade from the clunkiness that was Dark Souls and even more so Dark Souls 2. The movement feels fluent and everything feels like it has a proper sense of weight which makes fights feel more fair and overall more fun. The weapons while being more favored for the faster and lighter ones (except for daggers) feel like a natural extension of your character with windups being well telegraphed and damage being reasonable if you're progessing in a normal fassion (ie: not doing lothric castle or the DLC content early). My only gripe with the gameplay is is that's fairly unique to Dark Souls and other similar games (ex: Nioh, Salt and Sanctuary, etc.) so it's something that you can't just pick up and play but it also really allows you to feel how far you've come as a player. All in all while the gameplay isn't exactly forgiving there's a reason Dark Souls is often labled as "challenging but fair" or something similar. While Dark Souls will likely demolish you for your first few hours or so, nothing can beat the satisfaction that is overcoming seemingly inconquerable challenges and as my final statement for this section, even though I strongly recomend avoiding spoilers for bosses and areas and what not, don't be afraid to research how to not screw yourself over with poor decisions that you don't feel until later in your playthrough.

Multiplayer:
Time for what is possibly the most devisive part of this game, the multiplayer. Starting out, pvp is pretty rigid in it's meta which to me is a bit sad, you're basically relugated to straightswords and maybe the occasional katana or curved sword if you want to do well but that doesn't mean it has it's moments or is something to be avoided like the plague. The real highlight of the multiplayer in my opion is the silent interactions you have with phantoms and invaders, the player interaction is really a mixed bag in this game but atleast you won't run into mic based toxicity though that brings me to my next point and that is the existence of hackers. Hackers in Dark Souls really come in one of two main flavors, booring and unfun, and over the top ridiculous. What this really boils down to is that you really either run into unkillable one shot cheaters or stupidly hilarious and intricate showmen. Personally I've run into stuff as ridiculous as a giant headed clam man who sent me flying into another dimension after giving me a few embers. Overall for multiplayer there is the possibilty for people to grief and do horrible things but I still highly recomend not disabling online play unless you really have no other option.

Graphics:
This one I'll keep short and sweet, they're beautiful, personally I recomend keeping your game on a reletivily low brightness setting if not the minumum brightness for the best experience but don't go and sacrifice a lot of frames just to make the game look good.

Story/World:
As I previously stated in the Tldr, the world is amazingly designed and dripping with atmosphere. The story itself is mostly told through item descriptions and the locals and scenes you will find yourself looking upon. There is no possible way I can even begin to summarize this games lore but if you want to find out more, I suggest looking up Youtube lore channels such as VaatiVidya, Sanadsk, and many, may more.

Closing thoughts:
Dark Souls 3 is truly a good game but I strongly recomend looking before you leap on this one. For those who stay with it (like me) you may find yourself with one of the most rich and rewarding titles on the steam market.

Good luck out there Ashen One and have fun.
