It's addictive and fun for all the same reasons. The dev team seems to be listening to player concerns and overall I've enjoyed it HOWEVER... The era change is SO JARRING and I don't really understand the logic behind it. Every Civ game gets better with community input and I think this will be no different.

One of my favorite games in history, made loads more fun with a lot of interesting community mods and really challenging complications. I love it.
