About lip-sync, I used to get all the shapes right but it still seemed, not smooth. Then I found out the trick is size changing ( stretching ). For example when the character says "Ah", instead of just having one still frame for 3 frames of a open mouth, you use the stretch tool to slowly make the a bit wider each time, for 3 frames. I hope this helps you :)
