EDIT: ok 71 hours played, 70 in the past week. Yeah. This is the real deal. I am so so invested in every character I play. like emotionally painstakingly intertwined. Their final death is a major blow to my psyche. The lore is rich. There are soooooo many powers (talents) and traits to invest in. This game is such a labor of love and I love every minute of it.

Give it a chance. I bought this game about 9 years ago and never put more than 30 minutes into it. Now, I played a whole 6 hour life and thought, meh. Then I tried a new class and found the experience very different. I do think it lacks sparkle and world building that other roguelikes have, but to compare it to ♥♥♥ would not be appropriate. yes it might be a bit generic, but the mechanics are fun and interesting, and what flavor it does have, however overdone, is authentic. 7.5/10
