"You best start believin' in anime, kid. You're in one."

This game is truly great. The mechanics mesh together really well, and are unique from the obvious inspirations while still being familiar enough to enjoy. The characters are funny without stealing focus from the gameplay, never overstaying their welcome. The story so far is a classic "save-our-town" journey with laughs and real heart. Great creature designs (though not entirely implemented in this Early Access state), with concept art "biological studies" integrated into the Beastiepedia in a really satisfying way. And the soundtrack is absolutely laden with funky-fresh beats. The demo is well worth your time and the full game is more of the same.

Great as both a party game and an intelligent strategy game. In Chaos mode, the creatures you summon and spells you case have a chance to work or fail, leading to situations such as the rat killing the hydra, or overextending into what you thought was a sure thing only to be surrounded by an army of angry skeletons. You always have a chance, so even the most veteran players can compete with those who are brand-new.

Law mode does away with all the randomness, and completely changes the feel in the process. Now, the game is about resource management, clever positioning, and thinking turns in advance. Law mode really rewards you for understanding what you intend to do, and what your opponent intends to do.

Along with great visual style, an interesting equipment system, and the Realms mode (playing a campaign reminiscent of Heroes of Might and Magic), there are a lot of reasons to like this game.

Nothing is perfect, though, and there are a few areas that might annoy picky players. The UI is designed to look good, but sometimes functionality can suffer as a result. Game balance is always going to be an issue for this type of game - and with such varied strategies, some can seem far more powerful than others. Luckily, the devs seem to be receptive to the needs of the community, and these minor problems may go away in the future. As a Kickstarter contributor, I've seen the game morph from the alpha into what it is today, and I am certainly pleased.

Overall, Chaos Reborn is definitely a game worth considering. Pounce on it if you see it on sale.
