Co-Op Horribly Bugged. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR SAVE PROGRESS! BUYER BEWARE!

Played for 2 and a half hours solo, Hopped in a friend of mine's game to play. He had JUST finished the prologue and unlocked multiplayer, we played ONE match and then he had to go. I go back to find my save was overwritten with his! All of my character's progress GONE, levels, GONE. Was focusing on Linda, the archer, got her up to level 9, Now she's level 2... I don't have it in me to start over. I wish I'd seen a review or comment noting this, otherwise I wouldn't have joined Multiplayer. At this point, I wish I could refund, because I'm so angry these bugs were allowed to persist.

Not worth 45. Price got jacked up from EA AND they removed/heavily altered functionality that was there before. To put it in simple terms. I paid 25.00 for it when it could do 10 things. Now, you pay 45.00 for it when it can do 6 things. You do the math.

Had this for years, still have to jump through hoops to get the "Global Light" to not shine in my bar, or tavern or anything because while there's "roofs" in cinematic mode, there's no roofs in the mode where you export this to a VTT. leaving a weird shadow over everything... I've straight up swapped to using a different map maker because of this one simple thing. Every map they post... Global shadows.. everything.. it massively takes away from how good this app could be, but they don't seem to care, and i guess others don't either... its really immersion breaking for everyone I've ever run a game for (I'm always hearing comments).

Just block the damn shadows in a building... how freaking hard is that? Or ♥♥♥♥, give me the damn source code. I'll freaking do it for you.

Abandoned by devs. No players. Game itself is fun, but its MP only. Don't buy!

OLD REVIEW: This review might change in the future, right now, TTK is too high, balance is crap, and combat is clunky(Gunplay is awful).... Pulse rifle (Meant to kill cybrids) does more damage to players than an assault rifle(Meant to kill players) does. Loot is garbage.. plan to grind like hell and be outclassed at every turn. One secure slot (Would be fine, but loot sells for crap). Its an unfun grind already with pockets of fun inbetween. Ocassionally you make it out, but only if you manage to not get accosted by a gang of geared chads that take an entire mag of LMG ammo

Here's the thing, alpha was great, you had differing levels of queues, with differing levels of difficulty. More geared players could play there. While newer players could play with the lowbies.

Loot was muuuch better in alpha. I get they're trying to slow progression, but, what they ended up doing is making it so that some players are outgunning others due to lack of loot, lack of being able to craft stuff. (even "Valuables" sell for crap, and are unstackable).

If you were level 4, died every match, and made it out with a single valuable in your secure stash each round, it would take you 6-7 matches to have the credits to craft a single gun. Matches last roughly 15 minutes each. so an hour and a half of grinding, just to craft a gun, to potentially lose it the next match.

Honestly, they need to get rid of credit requirements for crafting guns, or up the sell price of valuables, especially since they gated crafting behind levels (You can't craft rarer stuff until you reach a certain level.)

What's the point of gating crafting by level when you're making it such a grind to craft a single item?

Anyway, the game needs a lot of work.. I'd avoid it until the make some serious balance passes, and improved the gunplay a little, maybe reduce the TTK a bit.

The thing they missed with tarkov/dark and darker is that you can go in with the starter weapon(D&D) or a pistol(Tarkov) and be effective in PVP... you absolutely cannot do that here unless they also have a starter weapon, then it just becomes a bad A+D strafe fest until someone dies...

This game needs a LOT of work. I only wish I hadn't spent money on the founders edition.. oh well, I should have known better.

To the devs.. The gamefest alpha was WAY more fun than this garbage.. I'd go back to it, or risk losing your playerbase.

CURRENT REVIEW AFTER PATCH UPDATE:

I'm finding that I'm much more on par with the players that I'm fighting, so the adjustments they made on this latest patch are much better. This is balancing TTK a little better.

Progression is quicker with the fixes to the loot drops. Not to mention, you're able to craft weapons now (Since you can now find rarer valuables).

Gunplay still needs a lot of work. I find that either i spin too fast, or not fast enough.. this is after an hour of toying with DPI and sensitivity. They're also still having hitreg issues after the patch.. not as bad as before, but still evident.

To the dev response. The balance issue is about weapons. If the pulse rifle has almost exact damage, fire rate, reload speed, etc. Then there is no reason to use one over the other given the situation. You've got great balance on weapons like the emp rifle (Great against cybrids, ♥♥♥♥♥ against players) but then you have weapons like the handcannon that does exact damage to both. players aren't even using the regular boarding pistol and instead are using the cybrid biter as it has 60 rounds in the mag and does almost the exact damage as the pistol. The only difference seems to be bullet speed in all of these comparisons, whereas bullet speed doesn't matter when you don't have to reload.

There's a small delay in the firing of the double barrel, which, when you only have two shots, puts the energy shotgun in a much better position as it has much more ammunition and the delay seems to be the same.

This is what I mean regarding balance changes. Damage seems arbitrary and all over the place.

Maybe the intent was to require players to think about what they're using, but when you have some cybrid weapons that are clearly outclassing their "Anti-player" counterpart, its a no brainer.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but in my head, energy weapons were supposed to in general, do more damage to cybrids and less damage to players, and vice versa.

I've changed my review to a recommend, as its clear you guys are working on fixing these issues, and the bones of the game is pretty good. I'm hoping for some good balance passes and gunplay refactoring in the future.

TL;DR; Game has many issues for a 40 dollar game that has been in production since 2016. Wait for a number of updates before you purchase... or for a sale where its greater than 30% off.. (20-25.00 range) I'm skeptical of support for this game as it has been mismanaged from the get-go.. So some of this may never be changed.

The most egregious issue is the softlocks... If you don't regularly save your game, you can completely get stuck and brick hours of gameplay. I made it to the research labs (Level 2) where I died before I could activate the respawn on the level. Respawned in medical, made it back to the elevator.. popped out in a depowered room, so I was stuck in a single room, had to reload a save from hours previous... at that point, I was over it and went and played an indie game that wasn't 40 bucks that didn't have these issues.

UI is not modern... in the sense that unless you're rocking a 1080P Monitor from like 7-8 years ago, the UI doesn't scale to modern resolutions. I had to randomly press keys on the keyboard to figure out how to show descriptions of items as you cannot effectively see what button you need to press due to downscaling.

Sound is pretty crappy, between it and the music, there's little immersion.. Granted this is subjective, but I can honestly say I assumed for the first 20 minutes that the game didn't have music, then battle music appeared AFTER I finished killing a guy.

Combat.. feels very 90s... I'm not sure if that was the point, but god... the combat feels god awful. Hits feel like limp noodles, animations look like they were assets bought straight off of the unreal marketplace, and the sound.... I've never heard a weaker sound when hitting anything with a big ass pipe than I've heard in this game. Also, Give me more feedback other than a glitchy screen if I'm close to death... heart beating faster, louder hit grunts.... etc.. better yet, go play any modern FPS... Scratch that... go play Doom 2016... it was out when you started building this game. Pay attention to the feedback you get in combat... the hits, the sounds, the visuals. All of that combine to make an engaging experience.. This.... this crap feels worse than a mobile game.

Money/Scrap - A: This is just a pain in the ass mechanic.. There's no point to running across the map to recycle stuff, since every vending machine only has an item or two you can buy for the entire level... just vaporize everything, then recycle and then you'll have more than enough money for the entire game. There's literally no point in collecting junk other than to vaporize it, then put cubes of scrap in the recycler, which leads me to believe the devs wanted a right click - vaporize minigame for many many items. Sure, it may have been in the first one... but you don't have to carry every mechanic over to make a remake of the original. Wanna add Quality of life? autoscrap all the junk.

Money/Scrap - B: Effing put 0 credits on the broken assault rifle or make the recycler inventory bigger... read the comments section in steam, People carrying that crap around hoping for a recycler it will fit in (There isn't one in the entire game)... its just a ♥♥♥♥ move. Don't punish your playerbase because some people were mad at you for not communicating on your kickstarter page.

Art style - A lot of people complaining about this... I feel like if they didn't straddle the fence on it, it wouldn't be so bad... it feels like they half assed the pixel art. Some places its used, such as buttons and screens, but then you see this really detailed pile of gore on the ground, or a dead enemy, it just clashes.. not to mention the exploding bodies on headshots. Its a quarter Doom like pixelated gore, 50% polygonal quake gore, and 25% modern particle effects.. It just looks like a B rated movie from the early 2000s that tried to use both practical and bad CGI effects at the same time... you know the ones. Immersion is so broken.

Shadows/Lighting - So effing weird... on the bad guys with guns... they are great... on the mutants? Did you guys forget to tell the engine that mutants were supposed to receive shadows? Global illumination? I mean.. They just look terrible... Combine that with their walking animations not matching their movement.. You know there's youtube tutorials on how to prevent that.

All in all, this game FEELS half assed... I'm sure the devs put in a lot of hard work, but the reality is, I just simply cannot recommend it in its current state.. Get it on sale, or after they've fixed some of these issues (Namely the softlocks)

Pretty much everything everyone else is saying. Spent 5 hours playing, and probably 30 minutes of combat. Constantly running around to make "Friends" is a chore. Aside from the shady business practices (Anticheat in a single player game to sell currency) This game is meh. Definitely not worth 35, I'd have probably paid 20-25 tops. Too much "Fluff" not enough substance to warrant the price point, not to mention the microtransactions. NGL was looking for the game to pirate to "demo" it before I found out about the free weekend. Nothing. This game so bad nobody wants to take the time to crack it. Glad I got the free weekend instead of spending my money on this rubbish.

Slow waste of your time. Accidents need fixed pronto.

1. Even on optimal conditions, severe accidents can occur, and should... OCCASIONALLY. Not once every 2 cycles, and even then, shouldn't kill 3 people and injure 6.
2. The aforementioned accident, that is 100% RNG. Can trigger a downward spiral where your population is SLIGHTLY overworked, and therefore 100% more prone to have an accident. Bringing the ratio to close to one a cycle. Which will make them MORE overworked causing MORE accidents, causing more population overwork, causing more accidents, etc etc.
3. Your ability to get new population to remedy this, is far outpaced by the rate at which accidents take your population out of commission. Seriously, your population are effing morons.
4. When you realize, that accidents are a constant and frequent thing, no matter how carefully you play the game, and understand that you are set up for failure, it makes you not want to play it. (Remember, its RNG based and even in optimal conditions, accidents seem to happen VERY frequently)

When did I discover this? About half an hour after my ability to refund.

Save yourself the money, and wait for the developer to fix, if that's even something they desire to do.

If its "Working as intended", I can think of far better ways to simulate the end of humanity than forcing the player to invest hours into a game before they realize they are unable to fix the problem.

I wish there was a Medium to this. Its a nice remake of smash brothers plagued by balance issues, there are definitely some characters that are far op than others. (Jake for instance). Its also not cool to have level one players be matched with level 22's and all the perks they come with. I don't like having to constantly exit the game to change your Warner Brothers account crap... Its 2022 and there are many indie games that managed to be able to put that crap in the UI of their game, but a major company like warn a brother can't seem to do it?

Also... Lebron? Come on. Surely a better person could be picked out of the entire cast of characters WB has access to. That's like making a disney smash brothers game and putting hanna montana in instead of Darth Vader.

I'd normally give a Meh score a yes, but the imbalance of the fighters, as well as the matchmaking imbalance lean me towards a no vote than a yes vote.

Game is a buggy mess. I Bought the DLC, and started a new campaign. In Mission 1, the first thing it wants you to do is place a HQ. Unfortunately, even though the UI says you have enough resources, the placement ghost is red, and when you click it, the character tells you "Not enough resources".

So I literally max out my resource capacity (for mission 1 with no buildings its 300), still not enough resources.

Refunded the DLC. If I could refund the game, I would as well, simply due to the fact that the devs broke the game and I now have a game that I cannot play.(It used to work).

BUYER BEWARE
