find a PvE noob server to start, and the graduate up to a better modded non-vanilla. I recommend NEO Farmers Chenarus and then Rearmed servers.

This game is deeply addictive, after watching Dunk or Slam and I think one other person (forget who) before I found him play for what must be like 10h+ of YT videos I AM FINALLY PLAYING IT! I built a gaming PC just for this and it does not disappoint! I must say that Dunk's comment about "you are gonna die. a lot. and it will take you a while to see and do all the things you can in this game and even then there will be surprises." is SO TRUE. I mostly get crap wands and spells and I am finding that even being very careful I still end up blowing myself up or setting myself on fire and not switching to water fast enough haahah...

THIS GAME RULES! OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVELY GOOD! Easy to learn, super difficult to master, and that is just exploration - the wand building and learning spell wrapping and what spells are good or not is another entire rabbit black hole in itself

THIS GAME FREAKIN RULES. Solid 9/10 easily. "DMT fever dream Metroidvania" was the most accurate description I saw before purchasing this game which caused me, along with the visuals, to instantly purchase it. It's absolutely gorgeous, and pretty easy to learn. There is a lot of poetic and flowery lore, but its all vague AF and not built upon, so as long as you can accept "game pretty, game fun, game very unique" and not care about not understanding a gyaat dayum thing that is going on literally ever... you've got a great game ;)

Pros:
- Unique skill tree system I've never seen anything similar to before
- Insanely creative art, lore, creatures and characters, world, etc
- Familiar and unfamiliar new powers and world-traversal skills/systems
- A very cool progression through the story that feels like Majora's Mask meets Metroid Prime meets Dead Cells with a dash of whatever games care about how "cool/special" the way you fight is and reward you for it
- It was VERY affordable for the amazing and super novel content you get - WOW

Cons
- Combat isn't explained until you've already cleared the first area
- While the vagueness of literally everything is also the games charm, it does kind of make it hard to emotionally invest in anything going on and feel driven to continue - I feel more driven by curiosity of seeing more pretty art and new areas than the "story/plot"
- You have to play through the whole game almost to so that you can (assumedly) go back on the second save file and do everything more intelligently and plan things out to get what I call/assume is Ultros' version of "the true ending" by using items in "the right spots" at the "right times." It's reminding me of the dream bosses in Hollow Knight that are totally skippable, but if you know what to do and when, and what secret areas to go explore, there is a whole other half of the game to be unlocked and seen. That's the best non-spoilers way I can think to explain it with my understanding so far.
- There are certain skill tree skills that just sound absolutely useless and they don't really add anything super useful or necessary to the gameplay.
- (trying to prevent spoilers here) After each boss, if you don't use the "skill saver" things you can pick up, you lose them. this wasn't explained and I forgot twice now and am short 2 skills in my tree because of it. Don't be like me, just choose a skill and lock it down the second you get this item.

[[ Edit disclaimer ]] — I'm about 50% of the way into the game and realizing that you start to understand more the deeper you get. This game feels like Memento or Inception or Shutter Island type movies, but a game. You understand more the further you get, and I assume you than can go back to the beginning on a new file and do it better with your end game understanding.
