Dota 2 is a beautiful competitive game. If you are looking for a casual fun game the base dota 2 game is not the way to go (you can try the custom game modes available for free ingame).
You will need to put time into dota to learn the basics and mechanic's of the game.

Getting into the dota community can be pretty hard when you are starting but believe me once you are accepted by the community its pretty fun and amazing.

Don't start by playing matchmaking, play bot games and learn what the game is and its heroes.

Your starting games vs real humans can/will be pretty overwhelming if you are lucky you might find good teammate's that will help you learn the game or you might get some flamers (ignore the negativity these kind of players show you). Also you can try the new coach feature.

Find your friends which are interested in playing dota, learning together can be fun and quick or find players online to help you learn the game (reddit is a good place to start).

Dota never gets old, it keep getting updates and the mechanics, gameplay and map keeps changing, you will always be learning the game.

Try to enjoy the game and have fun.
