I have not read this novel nor do I have any intention to do so. I am told that overall this novel is unfortunately rather mid. That said, I've enjoyed other titles localized by NekoNyan, so when I heard that the localization of this one pissed off the incels on 4chan so much that within a week one of them made a patch to remove the parts that hurt their feelings, I knew I had to at least buy this. Checking vndb this morning and unexpectedly seeing "Incel Removal Patch" in the Just Released section is quite possibly the most entertaining thing moege has ever provided me.

If you'd like to experience this game's puzzles with far less time commitment and without an overarching uncompelling narrative, might I recommend TED-Ed?

Chapter 3's Puzzle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnSw8g3DPHw
Chapter 4's Puzzle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKh6z0X6KRw
Chapter 5's Puzzle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yDmGnA8Hw0
Chapter 6's Puzzle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Vd1dTBVbFg

I'm fairly certain I've also seen chapter two's puzzle on a TED-Ed at some point, but I can't find the video any more. Regardless, these puzzles are easily available in plenty of other locations for free.

As for the story itself, chapter 6 onwards was quite enjoyable, but certainly not enough that I could recommend trudging through the first five chapters to get to it. But the novel's biggest issue is that there's no way to manually progress the text. I cranked the message speed up to the maximum which still left me constantly waiting for the next message having already read what's on screen. There's also a skip function, but as one might expect that progresses the text far too fast. Pick your poison; spending as much time waiting for the next message as you spend actually reading or tapping that skip button and needing to scroll up a bit.

Overall, cannot recommend. The puzzles are extremely common, you've almost definitely seen them before and if you haven't then there are still better ways to experience them. The story lacks even the slightest bit of entertainment value until the final act. The presentation, though unique and certainly full of potential, is where this novel falls flat the most.

While I have several issues with the game, overall I found it to be an enjoyable experience. The progression was unintuitive, especially in the early parts of the game though this got drastically better later on. The puzzles ranged anywhere from horrendous to mildly entertaining with one exception being a rather well made escape room sequence halfway through the game. The games primary selling point in my opinion is it's combat which perfectly embraced everything survival horror combat should be; this is to say that the combat was difficult and stressful, but also generally fair. As far as the story goes, well... I bought a Resident Evil game and that's exactly what I got. Overall, I would recommend this if you're looking for a good survival horror game reminiscent of older survival horrors but modernized to appeal to the current audience of the genre.

The game is fun, but it's way too much of an unpolished broken mess for me to give a positive review. I could go into detail about what it's issues are, but they all roughly amount to *insert aspect here* is what I'd expect from $15-20 indie game rather than a $60 title from a big company.

One issue that I feel I must go into detail with is the difficulty of the game. Specifically, the only way to make the game fun is to play single player and not have an NPC partner (you get the option to turn them off after the first boss.) If you want to play with a friend or use the NPCs (both of which the game's store page description pushes for) then you're going to have to be prepared for a painfully easy experience.

My only complaint is that there's no option to revert the graphics to those from the 2012 release.

It's a pretty good action game. Not much of a horror game.

Grisaia Dev Team: Can we please make a good installment in Phantom Trigger?
Frontwing: *heavy sigh* Fine. You may make one good volume of Phantom Trigger, but you're forbidden from making it as good as the original trilogy.

This is the first installment in the current generation of Grisaia that hasn't left me bored out of my mind. In fact, it held my interest for the entire four hours it took to read it. Like the rest of the series, it does unfortunately fail to live up to the original trilogy, but in all other regards this volume drops pretty much everything that makes Phantom Trigger bad. The fanservice is minimal (relative to the first five volumes), the pacing is good, the art and music are gorgeous (as we've come to expect from Frontwing).

I hope that this volume marks a shift in the series and we'll continue to see Phantom Trigger improve as it finds a more ideal identity than it was initially given.

I can't believe I actually have something good to say about Phantom Trigger.

If you're looking to fill the Grisaia shaped hole in your heart after completing the original trilogy, look elsewhere. You're not gonna laugh, you're not gonna cry, you're not even gonna be on the edge of your seat. Some of the later installments attempt to use elements that made the trilogy great, but they all fall short. At the end of the day, the original was a spy drama disguised as moe harem trash, but unfortunately phantom trigger is moe harem trash trying to trick you into thinking it's a spy drama.

To end on a positive note, phantom trigger is still far superior to the trilogy's anime adaptation.

This is a pretty fun game on the rare occasion you get into a server that isn't overrun with griefers, hackers, and/or mutes. Play with 5 friends or don't play at all.
