Path of Exile 2

Big Boy Diablo

*Path of Exile 2* is like *Diablo*ā€™s cooler, edgier cousin who listens to metal and knows how to code. Even in early release, itā€™s fun, addictive, and everything youā€™d expect from this genreā€”except, you know, better.

Story? Eh.

The plot is your classic ā€œdarkness is here, kill the darknessā€ vibe. Itā€™s not going to win a Pulitzer, but honestly, are you really here for the story? Letā€™s be realā€”this genre has a long-standing tradition of narrative being a slightly fancier way of saying ā€œkill everything.ā€

What Makes It Shine

  • Boss fights are clean: The mechanics feel polished, and taking down bosses is satisfying without being frustrating.
  • Gorgeous visuals: Maps, abilities, and environments look amazingā€”like someone actually cared about the details.
  • Skill tree made simple: You no longer need a PhD in Advanced Skillology to figure out whatā€™s going on.
  • Casual-friendly design: Perfect for normal humans with jobs who donā€™t have 4 hours to spend just figuring out what a gem does.

Steam Deck Status: Playable (With Quirks)

It works well on Steam Deck, though the fan might sound like itā€™s trying to take flight, and youā€™ll definitely need to stay plugged in. The visuals donā€™t quite shine as much on the smaller screen, but itā€™s surprisingly fun to play with a controllerā€”especially if youā€™re rolling as a ranger.

Diablo 4 Killer? Maybe.

With more accessible mechanics, a friendlier learning curve, and a much cheaper price tag, *Path of Exile 2* is giving its competition a run for its money. (Or, more accurately, your lack of itā€”because this game is free.)

The Verdict: 9/10

If you like ARPGs but donā€™t have time to marry the skill tree, this oneā€™s for you. *Path of Exile 2* is fun, addictive, and feels like itā€™s already delivering on its promises, even in early access. Just donā€™t expect the story to blow your mindā€”itā€™s here for the grind, and thatā€™s more than enough.
