Halo Finite. Worth trying since it's free. Lacking progression system and game modes.

PROGRESSION:
- In it's current state, even as a fan of the game (and previous games), progression is extremely un-inspiring, with xp earning rates moving at a crawl pace and no rewards for earning medals or high-scoring in matches. At a current 15.7hrs on record, I am at level 5/100 in the Battle Pass. Meaning it would approx. take me 314 hours of gameplay total to complete 1 season pass, which sounds like a huge dedication of time for a single season's worth of content. On top of this, the content you unlock once you begin to level up is very underwhelming, with colors being locked and armor sets + colors being only applicable to certain armor cores, meaning you either have to unlock or buy more colors in order to have options for different armor cores like the Mark V vs the Mark VII. In the store, armor sets are now selling for $20, weapon skins for $10, and "xp boosts" capitalizing on slow unlocks for $2 each. In one instance, a single shoulder pad is unlocked around 2-3 levels away from its matching other shoulder pad several times in the battle pass - couldn't these just have been unlocked at the same time and equipped by preference? This is just padded content. The first wearable cosmetic items a free player can unlock is a visor at level 6 (~18 hours of gameplay), a mint green armor color at level 11 (~33 hours of gameplay), and then a small attachable box on your chest at level 21 (~63 hours of gameplay). And even with the paid battle pass, unlocks are very lackluster until progression at levels closer to 100 (~300 hours of gameplay).
I would have much preferred paying the full $60 for this game and just having a progression system where unlocking items was a) feasible and b) rewarding.

GAMEPLAY:
- Gunplay is fantastic, the pistol is a lot of fun to use. The abilities/equipment and weapons take some time to learn but are rewarding when used correctly and/or situationally. Aim assist on a controller makes it feel much easier to use, even as a kb + m player I find myself doing better on a controller. However, comically far and inconsistent lunging in melee attacks and a massive emphasis on use of explosives can cause even the most casual player to be driven away in frustration. This is further enforced by the 4-grenade capacity on every player (2 grenades at spawn), ongoing grenade spawns, and assortments of explosive weapons on every map. The current lack of SWAT and Slayer playlists can infuriate or drive away even the most loyal players who do not wish to play game modes such as CTF and Oddball which require teamwork that is not always present in Quick Play. Teams which possess more explosive weapons tend to dominate in these 2 game modes as well.

GRAPHICS:
- Graphics are great, performance is fair in exchange for the graphical fidelity but can push your system at times if you like to run at higher settings. What you expect from a AAA franchise. Best looking Halo to date.

OVERALL:
- If you're just looking to have fun and want to play a good-looking Halo for free, this is a great start. However, this game is eclipsed by games like Halo 3 and Halo: Reach which had far more game modes, customization options, and a fluid progression system. It is clear the free-to-pay model is deeply embedded in customization and progression. For the $20 price of a single skin in this game, you can get the entire content of both Halo 3 and Halo: Reach (which also includes campaign, forge, armor progression, etc along with additional multiplayer modes). So at the moment, I would recommend trying Halo Infinite for free, because it is FREE. And if you enjoy the Halo experience and want more customization and unlocks I would recommend rather spending $10 to get Halo: Reach which has far more content and a rewarding progression system.
