Definitely still needs polishing, but it's a fun game.
I find a ton of the design decisions in this game extremely questionable. Many of them seem to be meant to pad out the game play rather than add anything.

Please let players take metal through teleporters. It's a dumb, arbitrary restriction.
Also enemies can be really annoying to deal with since they spawn endlessly. I wish there were a way to tone it back. Possibly by clearing areas of trees or something.
Iron can only be obtained in swamp dungeons (as far as I know), so an entire swamp can be worthless if it doesn't have a dungeon. All iron items take a ton of iron to craft, so the fact that it's so limited is really tedious.

I haven't gotten as far as others, so I'm sure I'll have more complaints going forward. But I'll probably keep playing this with my friends, since it seems to be the most fun with out people.

Very fun.

The game doesn't focus on the narrative, and instead seems to focus on making the game play and mechanics as seamless and smooth as possible.

All the weapons in the game are at least somewhat fun and satisfying to use. The super shotgun seems to shine above the others though, mainly because it's almost too powerful. However, all the guns have fun upgrades that make them interesting to try out. The skill trees in this game are simple, just upgrading your health/ammo/armor. There are some other upgrades you can get too, as you progress.

The world is okay at first, but later, the design for Hell in this is one of the most cool environments I've seen in a game in a long time.

All the enemies are different and interesting. Some are less fun to fight than others, mainly the ones which fly. They feel like the only thing you can't easily out-maneuver. Some of them are quite tanky too, and others are glass cannons which are just annoying to deal with,

Some of the secrets are a chore. There are levels with one-way doors and drops, so back tracking to find a secret you missed may require you to restart the whole level.

Doom really captures the essential game play of a movement shooter and boils it down to the core mechanics.

Definitely feel like I was spoiled by Doom 2016.
This game has some decent moments, but throughout the entire experience, I always felt like "okay, it must be about to get to the good part." And then the game ended.
TLDR: Skip this and maybe try the next game in the series, hopefully it's better.

The characters are a bit annoying and predictable. The writers tried to make them funny and somewhat memorable, but all the dialogue feels a bit forced. Some of it lands anyway, and the characters are memorable enough that they stuck with me. But I still found the long cut scenes made me cringe the longer I had to hear them, so I skipped a few of them. There are a lot of cut scenes.

The combat doesn't flow super well. I felt very sluggish, like I couldn't really do anything but play it like a cover shooter. Even changing your weapon is slow, taking more than a second and a half. Picking up any heavy weaponry slows you to a crawl, and firing the weapons is worse. The game even has it's over version of the BFG from Doom, but you have to stand almost entirely still to fire it, and the projectile feels slow and unsatisfying. You can find it on the last level.

At some point, you're given a choice between upgrades which suit your play style best. I picked the item that lets you move through vents and is suited for stealth. The game rarely takes advantage of the item I picked. There are multiple props I could have hid under, but the longer the game goes, the more linear it gets, and hiding under something just wastes your time. The vents I could use were only really used for moving in between areas on the linear path, and rarely used for actual movement within the same area. The other upgrades might have been more fun, but I'm not willing to replay to try them.

Stealth gameplay gets screwed extra hard because several enemy types can't be dealt with stealthily. Large robots, flying drones, and mechs are all almost impossible to fight without blowing your cover. Then there's a type of enemy that can activate an alarm and call reinforcements, so once your discovered, you just have to fight until you can find the enemy that activates the alarm. They're often located in the back of all the enemies, so you have to hope to eliminate every enemy silently before you can reach them. As I mentioned, some enemies are practically immune to stealth kills, and because the game is so linear, you probably can't walk around.

There's a cool skill tree which advances based on how you play, but it didn't really matter much. It just felt like an RPG element thrown in.

A lot of times I couldn't find where to go. There's apparently a hint system that they added because players kept getting lost, but I couldn't find the button for it. It doesn't show up in the key bindings, and Google didn't help.

The game is visually pretty nice, but I was playing on high settings, and the entire world is constantly foggy. Only a few levels didn't have some kind of fog, and the lights in the fog often blinded me, like driving through fog with my high beams on. It was definitely playable, but it got in the way really often.
The world is really nice though. All the environments were well crafted and details, with different themes and unique sights.

I think that covers everything.
Hopefully the next game in the series is better, but I'm a little burnt out so I won't get it for a while. I'd recommend skipping this game and buying the next one.

The player base is so small at this point that the only people playing are extremely sweaty basement dwellers who play this game like it's their religion. My friends and I got on last night and there were only 400 people online in the world. We got matched with players in Asia playing on the US server, probably because their servers are completely empty. The rest of the players are bots or macro users so if you aren't able to instantly lock on to someone's head from across the world you're probably going to get toasted.
The sweatiest players will main Viper who can use a short range teleport three times, but it doesn't matter because there are items in the game which allow you to teleport even while your downed, so unless you instant-kill someone they can just teleport away if you have the upper hand.
If you take any damage, your character comes to a complete stop to prevent you from evading at all, so no wonder people rely on teleportation so much. My friend tried using a jet pack to fly, but because they were getting melee'd they were rubber-banded back to the ground every time the dude smacked them.

tldr; So many janky mechanics and weird balance choices. Anyone still playing this has nothing better to do with their pathetic life that they're going to sit like a glob in their Razer gaming chair on this game until their diabetes ridden heart gives out.

Quirky and fun, with a fun art style and distinct characters.
My only complaints are that each character isn't given more screen time, since each one only has really one short puzzle to solve for them. They feel a little like tasks when the design of the game makes them seem more like characters you should connect to.
The ending is a little anticlimactic after the buildup and interesting dream sequences. Maybe it was a little too much buildup? I felt like I expected more.
I did come back and replay for all the endings and complete the characters, so this game gets a lot right.

This game really had me invested in the weird "plot", if it can even be called that. The puzzles are often clever and interesting, but often I found myself lost in the maze-like layout. It's hard to know when you need to find a new item to progress, or if you're capable of solving a puzzle. Oftentimes, if you feel stuck, you need to go find the next upgrade to your tool.
The puzzles in the late game didn't feel quite as satisfying as early game, mainly because it focused on using the tool to solve a lock-type puzzle, as opposed to requiring you to move around and look at things from new angles
I'd still encourage anyone to try it. The whole journey is well worth it.

A game that's truly a piece of art. After one playthrough, I'm not sure I understood everything it was trying to say. It will leave you something to think about though.

It's incredible how such a fun, iconic, and timeless game can be fumbled so hard by such a poorly managed company with theoretically unlimited money and manpower.

It's a bit dated now, but the game really let's you make your own fun

The sandbox allows users to develop their own whole games on community servers.
The steam workshop has tons of tools and assets which you can use locally to mess around on a singleplayer map. Or with friends if you can host your own server.
Playing single player, theres hardly a game though. Its just a big sandbox for you to mess with models or build things.

The most fun you'll find is either if you're a developer trying to make your own game in the source engine and want to try things out
Or
You join community servers running custom games (prop hunt, etc)

Those are definitely what have carried this game for so long, and honestly they still hold up if you dont mind how old the engine is
