If you've read any amount of reviews on Steam about this game you'll have an idea of how exactly this game is. It's an intense, tactical, strategic first person shooter marred by a myriad of game breaking bugs, unacceptably poor hit detection, terrible servers and endless exploits.

I love the game to death because there's nothing else quite like it out today, but I can't recommend it to anyone in any state currently, but it's just not a well put together game.

edit: Changing my review to a positive one almost a year and a half later now that the majority of the looks, plays, and runs 100x better than it did back in february 2016

The current price is a little high but the amount of fun you will get from it is soooooo worth it.

I've played quite a bit of this game before it came to Steam, so hopefully you can understand when I say that this game is very much worth your time. Comparisons to Earthbound are abound, and for good reason. This is a hard-hitting, difficult RPG with spats of humor and emotion. You may have recently played another indie RPG recently that also received comparisons to Earthbound, and while I am also a fan of that game, I feel that in characterizations, gameplay and storytelling that Lisa easily surpasses that title that I won't be mentioning here. This game is worth your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time. It's unforgiving, I got stuck on a few bosses towards the beginning and just barely scraped by even after attempts at grinding. It's got it's dark humor and genuine funny moments, but it does an excellent job at making you feel like a complete failure and at the same time making you feel like you've made a difference.

If you've played the other game, I don't doubt that you'll enjoy this, and hopefully enjoy this much more, as I feel it has much more to offer in so many categories.

I've put a decent amount of time into the game, moreso than I've put into other F2P FPS titles. The game brings to mind a crossover of Titanfall/Advanced Warfare, Team Fortress 2, and Counter Strike, to name a few.

The TF/AW comparison comes from the overall "modern speed" style, where you're not necessarily flying around the maps Quake 3 style but instead using the environment to propel and move yourself strategically around the map to gain an advantage over your enemies. It's not 100% necessary, but it'll make you a better player overall if you take the time to learn the mechanics.

The TF2 comparison is in regards to the class system Dirty Bomb has in place. The characters have their own personalities, special moves and powers, speed, weapons, etc. Some classes seem to be straight from TF2 altogether (Large fat dude with a minigun balanced around defending objectives, cocky but incredibly fast objective attacker/planter regularly played with a shotgun, multiple classes design to heal and provide ammo, etc). It's less of a straight ripoff and more an expansion on TF2's class system. Your moves have cooldowns and could easily be compared to Dota 2 or any other game that gives you abilities on a cooldown.

Counter Strike comparisons come into play with the *heavy* focus on teamwork, communication, objective gameplay, and precision aiming. While the pace of the game itself isn't similar to CSGO, the overall feel of the game gives you a sense of teamwork and precision not seen in other titles.

The F2P model, in my opinion, is extremely well done. Rather than purchasing straight upgrades and overpowered weapons/items, you purchase "Loadouts." Each loadout is 100% randomized, and you can opt to buy a loadout crate with 1,000 ingame currency, or you can win a crate by completing various objectives over the course of your playtime. Opening a standard crate will give you an Lead, Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Cobalt Loadout. ANYTHING above Bronze is purely cosmetic and 100% unnecessary. Lead loadouts come with your randomized weapons, and one modifier. Iron loadouts give you two modifiers, and finally Bronze loadouts will give you three modifiers. 90% of the modifiers obtainable are mostly QoL items, such as reduced flinch while aiming down your sights (Which you should never do anyways, there is no penalty to accuracy or recoil for hipfiring, except for slowing you down and making you an easy target), an alarm when airstrike/artillery are inbound, and other minor QoL changes that are absolutely not needed, as all of these things can be negated by simply playing and paying attention. Over time, you'll learn to listen for the loud sound of an airstrike over you, or artillery inbound, or when you've been targetted by a turret. It's for people who need some assistance at the beginning, later on when you get a loadout that gives you any of these modifiers you'll groan, wishing that you had gotten a "better" on, such as a 10% reduction to your abilities cooldown, or a 10% addition to your frag grenade's explosion. You could definitely argue to a 10% explosion radius boost, an ability to reload while running, or a 20% reduction to reload time is "overpowered" and "P2W", but since these modifiers are 100% random in each of your loadouts it is literally impossible to get them on purpose, it's random, everyone can get them with minimal effort.

Graphicswise, the game has a nice art style to it. It's easy on the eyes while being easy on your rig. Over time you may find yourself playing on lower graphic settings to get a higher framerate. It looks good, plays good, nothing wrong at all.

Overall, I can't recommend this game enough. It's a shining example of what a free-to-play title should be. It's fun, fast, feels great, plays great, and is just a blast to be a part of. So many crazy moments happen while playing, and no two games play the same. The only real complaints I have is that there's only 5 maps currently, but they're so tightly balanced and put together that every time I play a round on one it feels like I'm playing it for the first time. I'm still learning new things about the maps and characters even now!

Also, with the exclusion of Comp matches, playing music while playing increases the fun. I would recommend something similar to the Titanfall or Crank 2 soundtrack. Trust me when I say it'll make your playing experience *that* much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ better.

It's not bad. Just go into it remembering that it's a port of an indie iOS/Android FPS and that it 100% shows. Other than that it's an overall servicable Doom 3 clone with nice weapons and somewhat impressive graphics (For a port of a mobile title)

It's worth your $5 if you liked Doom 3. If you didn't, wait for a sale. Or don't buy it. You're not missing out on anything revolutionary here, just a very run of the mill space FPS.

I would recommend getting a few hours of the regular game under your belt to see if it's something you enjoy. If you like the game as it is, this Starter Pack is perfect. I look at it like you're paying $30 for the full game, as this gives you almost all the content you need to really get into the meat of Dirty Bomb. You can of course play the game by itself without buying it, which is still fun on it's own merits, but buying this will give you access to things that you might only gain after hours of paying.

Look at it like Dirty Bomb is a $30 game, and this is where you buy it. The actual game you can play for free is a test run to see if you think it's worth the price. I know I think it is. Hope this helps! :)
