what an exciting ride this game has brought my wife and myself, such intricate melee combat/movement mechanics and much much more! I came from vermintide so yea chasing that chaotic horde slasher!
But the most fun i am having is in my Asia server whereby screaming Chinese(I know chinese) in vc with China players for boosting of morale or shouting for help, completes the icing on this very delectable cake of a game. KARKING HERETICS!!!

Early Access Review
EDIT: 6 months after my initial review and yeah nothing really changed in terms of whatever I addressed here on August 2024. I had 3 hours+ game time and just didn't come back for 6 months. Now I am back to check, yep, stalemate. I don't know what FGS is really doing, they gotta buck up. Poor guys whom backed the most expensive choice...

Review at August 2024:
I too, amongst many, bought the founder's pack and awaited this glorious game to be released into EA because we believe in something created by SC2 veteran devs.

Generally, the gameplay looks and feels pretty good, very SC2-inspired way of RTS styling. But I couldn't ignore the almost toy-soldier/toy-like models for every single unit/building. Let us give FGS time to polish that aspect. The UI feels a little too basic at this point even for SC2 veteran devs. The victory splash is exceptionally poorly done imo.

I am also a little disappointed to not have animated unit portraits. Perhaps that isn't a priority for FGS, sure, let them cook this a little longer. The in-game cutscenes lets you view the models up close and yep, it is very poly-ish, I am sure they will polish them further again.
The campaign is pretty darn weak though...bonus objectives locations aren't highlighted on the minimap, voiceover dialogue has sentences spoken wayyyy too softly, like other reviewers shared - can't pause, can't save and if you press quit by accident - there is no "Are you sure?" prompt. The story is not gripping because it felt rushed - people can feel this very very easily.

Amara, looks nothing like her father too. Little girl Amara does but, adult Amara does not. Not sure what's up with this design decision of their main character. The campaign's main villian had some corny lines and the voiceover I just felt it didn't resonate that well. Kinda a shame that the campaign's first chapter has way too much in common with SC2 campaign missions - they struggling to come up with something original or tapping into SC2 player's nostalgia for SC2? Idk man...

I was shocked at the decision for microtransaction on Co-op heroes, real shocked. They only give you 1 hero free to use for the Vanguards but no free hero for the Host and Celestials. At least SC2 gave us free Kerrigan and Artanis...
At this early of a stage for their EA, throwing microtransaction at us really increases the sourness I am already tasting. They even wanna sell you extra pets.

Definitely Stormgate at this stage really needs tons of work aesthetically. I know I have many complaints in this review and so does others but can't blame us, FGS kept marketing about their team of veteran devs, so, some sort of high expectations is bound to be garnered within the community, no?

Together with many others, I will be keeping a hopeful eye on Stormgate, wishing/hoping/awaiting for it's constant improvements! Keep it comin' FGS!

I have 800 hours in, rookie numbers I know, thing is, Monster hunter has been there for me my whole life and when this game dropped, it was utterly beautiful. Years after the final update came through, it is still as beautiful as a pristine scenery you lay your eyes on for the 100th time.

I have played for 19 hours,
Correction, I have suffered for 19 hours.
It is challenging, it is buggy, it is a glitch fest,
But there is bit of fun amidst the chaos..

Was a really avid player of JWE1 back then and ultra excited for JWE2.
So straight off, the game, its fun for...a short while. I recommend it but let's run through some of my thoughts before leading it up to why i recommend it, shall we?

The missions are all presented the exact same way as JWE1 - starts off with some narration and camera panning of the land, that's all. Voice acting is there but I just don't feel it, yknow? So, that's lazy on them.

The new dino animations and behaviors are really awesome, I appreciate them addressing the immense lack of(and re-used) animations in JWE1 but just making way more in JWE2. Especially the dino's social animations. Neat. However.....when the social animation gets triggered, most of the time it looks and feels so...umm staged? Two dinos have to get in their right positions before the social animation can play. So you see a triceratops wanting to socialize with another triceratops, they approach each other, triceratops 1 will wait for tricera 2 to get in position by just standing there, tricera 2 will approach and angle itself nicely like a vehicle parking in a lot. :(

Many times too I see dinos just bugging out badly. I am sure many reviews have stated so already.
My little carnivores just not eating, not drinking, either sprinting their way round and round their enclosure or just straight up not move and locked in an idle animation till the game warns me of their low health.
The only way to reset their biological clock, is to tranq them and move them wherever. (Most of the time they return to being stuck) Defective dino? idk you tell me frontier.
Dino genetic modifications. oof. It's a new system, nice, yea, cool, but. It limits you so extremely that by just wanting to balance out a negative trait, you are left with no more modification points to increase anything else. I prefer the old JWE1 modification system. Oh yes, throughout the missions, you are gonna waste so much money because chance deems your synthesized dino to not have a single positive trait but 2 negative ones - 3 synthesis in a row.

Pack hunting. It is a thing and it is AMAZING to watch! Well, after 3-4 times, you get sick of it because, it feels fake. yes. I feel sad saying this. The dino being pack hunted doesn't make a run for it, it just stays there so shrug off attackers. When the hunted big dino do shrugs them raptors off, the raptops fly and gets ragdolled. So........fake.....
When an ankylosaurus do shrugs off a raptor and hits it with it's club tail, i mean it's sooo cool to see but that raptor will FLYYY. It lands very far away as a ragdoll, then gets up and resumes the attack. what.

Herbivores are now way weaker in combat against carnivores too. They removed ceratopsid's finishing move on carnivores which is hella disappointing of Frontier. At first I thought I couldn't proc it. After trying so long, I gave up and found out from youtubers and modders that it is no longer a thing. It's so sad..

Ah yes!!!! Before I forgot, Crichtonsaurus. Naturally, it comes with a negative trait of it being very very anti-social.
When released from the hatchery, Dr Wu will introduce this dino. He says something like this dinosaur does well in groups. WHAT. BRO. bro.
why. would. you. cree. ate. such. bs.

Lagoons. Aviary. (you know is gon be brought up)
Both of these new features, ultra exciting. Seriously! I was so crazy excited to try these new features out when I got the game and when I built them, oh. That's...all? I felt like all my excitement took a plunge so hard that for a moment, I felt cheated.
Aviary. The way the camera works in these things is horrendous. You shift the camera into the aviary and start editing the landscape, cool. You rotate the camera and your view gets shifted outside the aviary. If you are reading this and you don't comprehend, I apologize, it's something you only can experience by playing the game, I can't explain it properly.. :(
Dinos in the aviary favor landing on the aviary viewing gallery. Like a bunch of them will land on there. They can land on rocks yea but they crowd on the gallery. There was one time, a flying dino died of old age while being on the gallery and just fell INTO the gallery. RIGHT BESIDE the visitors. YES. WILD.
Medicating flying dinos is a pain. The mobile medic van takes forever to medicate them and sometimes they will never get the job done. It's frustrating and disappointing.

Lagoons. It's beautiful yet ugly at the same time.
You are unable to edit the lagoon's seabed so it looks sooooo barren sooooo dead.
The marine animals -almost all of their skins and patterns are for nothing, you can't see their colors and patterns because the water is so blue. I am not asking to un-blue the water, just make their color variations pop out more please.
When marine animals get sick, especially the big ones, medicating drones take forever or sometimes fail to medicate them. I lost so much marine animals this way.
Camera in the lagoon. I don't like it. Actually JWE's camera control is really bad in general. Being unable to pan it vertically just kills me.

Park building.
Decorations, extremely limited and mostly repeated reskins.
Flora, extremely limited too and restricted to biomes. e.g no snow in some places. I get it, it's for realism but..
The park that you can build will just look so...dull..it happend in JWE1, this time in JWE2 there is improvement but it leaves people questioning, "if they decided to do this, why does it feel halfway?"

Scientist. Huge waste of money that is possible designed to slow your progress down by alot.
It's pretty cool concept but yeah I just feel that way about this feature.
They do have a wide variety of scientist portraits and nice names but yep, just no interaction, just a photo of your scientist. Again, kinda feels like things are missing.

Ok back to missions.
They feature chaos theory, which is basically a re-visit to the parks of all the previous films.
I seriously feel that way more could be done in these parks. I seriously feel so.
The worst one was fallen kingdom. Go play it and you will be left speechless. By speechless I mean the flow of the mission from start to end - really hard to stomach as fallen kingdom is the latest film in the franchise. (btw I had to restart this mission 3 times due to bugs)

Challenge missions. Tough as hell. Why? Partly because of the modifiers (low starting cash, tougher to care for dinos etc) But mostly because of all the above-mentioned stuff.
Many times I find myself just saving and quitting immediately halfway because I got so frustrated at dinos being sick and the AI vehicles being unable to cure them, dinos taking turns being sick, herbivores running fight clubs and getting majorly injured all the time, among all these events, a terrible weather event happens that disables my vehicles.

gosh, this is my longest review ever. I am sorry people, if you are still reading this, thank you.
I have alot more to say but I will end it here with why I recommend this game.

Because mods. That's all.

Modders are saving this game. Making it playable, enjoyable and tolerable.
It feels as if Frontier made this game as a damsel in distress for modders to come save it.
Again, I feel sad listing all these grievances out yet I still love this game..
I seriously was disappointed when they did not release the other hybrids along with the base game(spinoraptor, stegoceratops and ankylodocus) but they better not release them as a paid DLC.
Once hitting 100% achievements, I probably won't touch JWE2 anymore..

After clocking over a hundred hours in JWE with all of it's paid DLC, Parkasaurus coming in at a significantly low price is truly a breath of fresh air for me.
This game excels in engulfing you in it's light, fluffy and simply adorable soundtrack, art style and overall UI.
It is just comfortable to listen to the guests shout out in excitement and the dinos growling.
But don't let the casual looks fool your judgement if you are looking to buy! Parkasaurus definitely is challenging and time consuming, getting you to learn it's various mechanics but hey, those are traits of a good ol' management sim game anyway yes?
