I never thought I would not want to play a Dragon Age game until now. I even like Dragon Age 2, despite the controversial decisions they made. I was expecting it to be rough after seeing the little shown before release, and I was still dissapointed.

The fact that this game has received 10/10 and 5/5 ratings is pretty insane to me. The little I have played of it told me that this was just a different game from Dragon Age. All the core gameplay has been replaced on a fundamental level. Just make your own game, stop changing things that have already been created. It's not quite as bad as Andromeda, but only because it functions. I'll mourn this franchise, and the company Bioware used to be.

TLDR: Don't play this is you are new, you will have a very bad time. the game is pretty but is built from dung and twigs.

I sometimes will come back to try and play when there is new content, like Vecna for instance. But once the shimmer and veneer on something new fades you can see the rot.

The game just celebrated it's 8th anniversary and it still plays like it's only recently come out of beta. Every major update ends up breaking something core, which is indicative of very poor programming. This is not helped by the fact that the developers have been shown to mislead or outright lie to their audience; claiming the engine(Unreal Engine) does not have replay functionality, or trying to downplay the fact that they use Blueprints because they also sometimes use C++ when writing the game. Using Blueprints was fine when this game was a couple of years old, but it's closing in on being a decade old and made with the same tools of a novice coder.

And now let's get to the game balance, because the game is not supposed to, or designed to, be fair. This isn't a problem in any single player game, so long as there are tools to help a player move along, i.e. Fromsoft's souls games. However, this is a PvP game, and there are 143 Survivor and 121 Killer perks. These perks can be used freely between every character you play, within whichever side you are playing on. because of this, there is always a hard-meta that rarely deviates outside of a dozen perks on each side. Whenever the team decides to bestow a perk rewrite, the community generally celebrates because the vast majority of perks are simply not worth taking. Unless they are on a character you have to pay real money for, then it's probably cracked. You also start with 12 perks as Killer and 13 as Survivor, so if you are new to the game you have very few tools to learn to play with unless you purchase more characters. The balance is not even the reason why I think the game is horse-apples, however.

On top of the devs being sketchy and largely non-communicative, and the balance issues, the game just plays very poorly. It's fps locked and has very few setting you can actually change in-game. Instead,if you are looking top stop stuttering and framerate issues, you need to go on reddit or somewhere similar and look up how to open the basic Unreal Engine files through the OS. You can't change any of the individual settings or alter the sometimes deafening sounds compared to the silent ones you need to keep a careful ear out for.. The community is also just incredibly entitled, and I have personally given up on them just like god has.

So, yeah. Unless you want to invest ~40 hours a week playing this game to become a savant, you're gonna have a bad time. I honestly tried condensing this to not make it even longer than it already is. I would probably play it again, but the devs have made it public that they are content with the current state of the game, via a direct AMA on reddit. So, maybe not.

Feels like coming home, I missed this game so much after the rework of the original and it's subsequent failure. I hope Omeda Studios can bring Predecessor even higher than Paragon.

This game has a unique style of play that I have never seen before. It is an RTS and an MMO lovechild concept that is outstanding. It's easy to get lost in, and you can definitely find a House(guild) that will make it even better for you. The Territory Wars take a decent bit of actual strategy, and using out of game coms such as Discord you can really have a blast.

I would not recommend this game to anyone, however.

It has been a few months since I played it, and even then it was just to see if I really would have liked to return. If you play on NA, you need to play on NA East, because West does not have the population for any real Territory War functionality. One Alliance pretty much owns everything. The two servers used to be one, until they were split. The servers themselves are extremely low quality, well below industry standards, that the developers waited until the chip shortage to claim there were simply no servers available to them. But they were really trying guys, for sure.

This wouldn't matter if you didn't need materials to replenish you units, which you can get by crafting. You can also only really get Silver, the prestige currency in game that you can not purchase, through having these territories. Silver is extremely important in gaining these resources as well. Now, none of this matters if you simply pay real money to get everything. Including powerful units locked behind HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF PLAYTIME if you do not spend real money. During that time, you will need to suffer the enemy having those units already with a matchmaking system that may as well not exist.

I really want this game to be good. I started playing when it had a player explosion March 2021, and the cracks seemed manageable, if they would be addressed in the future. The developers completely squandered the tailwind they got the following season by releasing an embarrassingly unfinished expansion that took the entirety of it's season to balance units for. The units that you could pay money to obtain at full power. The concept is outstanding, but I will never trust these developers to make it a good game. I hope that it inspires another studio to make something comparable.

Minecraft meets Skyrim; I have not played a great deal past the first "boss", but I'm pretty addicted to the game already.

A fun team based game. Pretty smooth, extremely similar to Defense Of The Ancients on Warcraft 3, and a decent community. Just recently came out of a very successful Beta run, never would have guessed it was even in Beta to be honest.
