Closer to DDR/StepMania than Cook, Serve, Delicious... But without sight reading, the charts randomly change during the game, and the flow is often interrupted such that you can't get a good rhythm going.

The drive to abstract the Cook, Serve, Delicious formula down into a game that only uses 4 buttons has backfired.

The more casual gamers I know have been completely turned off of the game because of the changes. Especially the new hold commands, the lack of easy recipes/menu padding (pretzels and hotdogs in previous games), and the feeling the game is out to trick you to press the wrong button.

My own annoyances stem from being unable to master systems. With the sheer amount of randomization introduced into the formula, I can no longer memorize harder recipes and commit them to muscle memory. This could be offset if the UI changes to allow for better sight reading: if the next ingredient was clearly shown without it being half transparent. Even then, it pales in comparison to the feeling of reading "The Ryan Davis," typing in BOINC or something, and insta-finishing a burger.

There is also a decent risk of RSI/Carpal Tunnel introduced with the new control scheme, especially in the earlier levels. The new system, for example, may have a dish that requires you to hammer the A button ~17 times, as fast as you can.

Music is still banger and I'm sure the story's great, I just don't want to play the game to get to it.

I miss the food descriptions.

Free game, no intrusive monetization, nerdy aesthetic that I vibe with.

An idle game that solves the one issue I have with idle games: It doesn't feel like I've wasted my time.

Some of the javascript knowledge and problem solving-ability that you need to play this game well can translate to real-world problems -- and it's nice to look over all the scripts you wrote and iterated on over the course of a few play sessions and see your own progress.

Way more fun if you're a confident programmer or have some previous programming skill. Not sure if I'd recommend it for learning programming or first-time programmers.

Love the nerd sniping/"coding contracts" system as a series of fun brain teasers, kinda wish the rewards they gave were more directed. Idle games have a lot of downtime, this was a great solution for filling that downtime, but the reward for doing it often didn't give me game progress. If I could get a guaranteed reduction in the time I had to wait for the next milestone by 2 hours by doing a coding contract - that'd be great. As of now, that 20k reputation I got with foodnstuff is, I guess, just going to waste.

It's free.
It's political.
It's a way to burn an hour.

Complex crime drama with a hint of that moralising cheesiness makes this a top-notch story. Lots of people yelling at eachother and trading philosophies before erupting into fist fights.

Great brawler action that's deep enough to get lost in but not entirely necessary to beat the game. Be prepared for some grinding if you want to really explore and flesh out the fighting system.

Technically a prequel to a much larger and storied series, but a good entry point for the series. I didn't feel like I needed to know anything about the rest of the series to play.

The Return of You Don't Know Jack!

If you're not sure which of these Jackbox Party Packs to start with, do this one. While these games are usually best played with at least 4 people (all with smart phones and sitting next to you on the couch), You Don't Know Jack is a trivia game that can be played single player and gives you a good idea of the humor/writing endemic to this series.

Don't treat this game like a standard FPS. Treat this game like a more realistic Garry's Mod.

This game shines in its ludicrous amount of moddability.

Be prepared to put a lot of effort into setting things up.

This game is not for everyone, but it has enough going for it to be recommended even at this early state.

If you're looking for a 3D Stardew Valley, maybe watch some gameplay videos and make sure this game is something you'd like.

I'm a bit surprised, considering what I'd heard about the game, that this game is a more like a single player MMO with some elements of Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley/Animal Crossing. The crafting systems, the main draw of the game, are a cross between Black Desert and Factorio-lite. You build a bunch of things that make things while you play the rest of the game.

If you're cool with the grind, you'll like what this game has to offer. There is a lot of crafting things so you can craft things in order to craft more things.

The game, at the time of this review, has bugs and needs some polish. In particular, a cat I like to feed likes to "follow" the player by constantly teleporting behind you. In fact, a lot of the bugs present remind me of common issues in MMO's -- so I kinda wonder if this is a port of some sort or if the developers used to work on an MMO.

The game has a long way to go, but this is a good first step.

Picked this up in a recent sale at a great price (about $4).

A refreshing change of pace and an interesting setting. Got me back into Mount and Blade.

Story mode is hit or miss, I only started enjoying the game again once I picked a noble start in sandbox mode.
