I was having a lot of fun in this game, right up until they decided that linux is evil, and everyone who uses a linux based OS is a hacker.

Easy CRPG to get into.
The lore is very intuitive and easy to pick up and understand, and the gameplay is good too.
There is room for improvement of course, but this is a solid first entry in a new franchise.

Resolution: 5120 x 1440
GPU: RTX 4080
CPU: 5800X3D
All settings on "Epic" and raytracing turned ON.
FSR is set to "Quality".

In the starting area the performance has been acceptable. I have not dipped below 60 FPS yet.
GPU utilization fluctuates between 60% and 99%.
CPU utilization seems to hover around 30%.
During cutscenes there seems to be some stuttering, not a lot, but without a doubt something you notice.
During gameplay, everything is mostly smooth. I have had a few instances of stuttering, but it has happened maybe twice, and was a single stutter each time.

After making it to the first planet after the starting area, i have had no issues with performance at all. Smooth 80+ framerate.

The cutscenes haven't had any of the audio sync issues I've seen reported in SkillUp's video, so far it seem to run pretty well on my setup.

The UI seems to be constrained to 16:9, which is great!
The game renders with no black bars on the sides in ultrawide (32:9), and with the UI being constrained, i don't have to turn my head to view my health. Great stuff.

It's a very linear Final Fantasy game, apart from the second half of the game, where one of the chapters is really open.
The story starts out a bit slow, and some of the characters can be very annoying. But once both the story and the characters develop, both become a lot better.

The game is better in every way, compared to the original. You can play this game, without having played the first entry in the series, but there will be some references that are lost on you.

This game is not for everyone. It's a slow game, with a story that for the first 20-30 hours of the game, is confusing as hell. The latter is of course to be expected from a Hideo Kojima game.
The story all in all, is pretty good, but not as amazing as you'd might expect from Kojima.
The game itself is really enjoyable though. The tie-in with Half-life and Portal, is a funny little distraction.

When you haul packages from one city, to the next, you'll enjoy some amazing scenery, with some carefully curated music, which just makes you want to stop and enjoy the view, time and time again.
It's also this however, which might keep some people from playing the game. The vast majority of the game, is just you, delivering packages, walking or driving from city to city.
This might sound boring, and I'll admit, I had to get used to the very different gameplay. But once I got used to it, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'll enjoy this game to anyone, with the asterisk of it being a slow game, meant to be enjoyed, and not rushed through.

It plays just like it did back in the day. For better or worse.
There is a "modern" controls option, that adds some more modern controls, such as right-click, however, for the most part, this is CNC as it was. So if you don't mind that you can't set rally point, or have a unit assigned to multiple control groups, or whatelse you're used to from modern RTS games, or if you're just feeling really nostalgic, then i recommend the game.
The AI upscaled cutscenes are a nice touch, the soundtrack is still amazing, and the game is still good.

Very buggy game, even to this day. It has crashed several times for me, and now it won't even launch.
