Yummie Commie blocks yay. My little pocket world of brutalist hell to remind me of home.

Don't want to recommend against it but rather not recommend for it either.

Detroit: Become Human sets a pretty high bar right out of the gate, but it falls short of it soon after. Several chapters into the story gets messy, and inconsistent character behaviour becomes downright jarring and illogical, until most of the dialogue is boilerplate you want to skip.

Choices matter, except that they still don't. The game finds a way to get you back on track no matter what you choose, and the stakes in the story are pretty high.

In the end, it's a visual novel, and I've seen more narrative accuracy with almost as much mobility in less story-oriented games. Still though, that opening chapter is pretty amazing.

I really can't recommend this enough. The art style, character design, and narrative are a rare breed of perfect.

So glad Artificer's here to pick up the torch from Mimimi.

All this by a solo dev? This is a masterpiece.

The thing that sold me on it is that it doesn't just look authentic, the actual mechanics support that feel as you get into the game. Love the little details like using oxen to transport heavy goods, assigning entire families to a particular occupation, etc.

Intentional regression ever since I:R. Stripping their games of features and mechanics just to resell with a reskin.

Would've been a thumbs up if I could, you know, actually run the game. Oh and the 300 hours is me afking in it on my previous laptop because the game's lacking optimisation was ideal for forcing the old fans to run at full throttle, which stopped them from rattling.

It's an Early Access title, and that describes it best.

You're probably better off playing an ArmA 3 mod if you're looking to scratch that particular itch, but GZ has high potential to become a solid extraction shooter down the road.

Right now, I'm only getting around 46-50 FPS (with some downward spikes when taking a heli and whatnot) on a laptop, 7940HS/4060/16GB dd5 (8x2) at 2560x1440 with medium presets (except for low post-processing). Hopefully this will give other laptop users an idea of what to expect at this point. I think it's theoretically possible to squeeze out better FPS by tweaking the settings a little (going down to FHD, messing with sharpness and other settings), but most of the issues seem to boil down to poor optimisation, like when the game tries to load every single tree for miles around in crisp quality when you're taking a heli. Stuff like this should be relatively easy to fix.

Gameplay-wise, I really like the atmosphere and the feel of the world but then again, it's not like you can't get precisely that in ArmA 3. Gunplay is a little off — there's virtually no recoil and sometimes landing shots makes you wonder if they got gobbled up by lag or armour plates. The game's got that kind of "improptu" feel to many of its areas like scarcity of options, scarcity of content, and the mechanics themselves — but then again, pointing it out in an EA title is a little redundant.

GZ's got a good chance, let's hope they don't botch it.

I've got something of a soft spot for hoplites and the Hellenic aesthetic as a whole, and I still couldn't look past the clunky and honestly rather dull gameplay. Combat doesn't really challenge you, it's more of a test of patience rather than skill. Maybe it would be a better experience with a controller (the game does point it out that it's better played that way), but I still think it should be doable and comfy enough with keyboard and mouse.

If I start nitpicking, voice acting is a tad subpar, but honestly I don't even know if it's worth pointing it out considering it's a small studio. This isn't something they deserve to be judged for.

If I end up getting more hours in Achilles down the lane, guess that'd mean I managed to overcome these gripes. If you're in the same boat (looking for that aesthetic), at least wait for it to go on sale.

didn't see the answer from the devs; I like their commitment to the game so I'm going to give it a thumbs up and try the game again sometime.
