Having played every major Civ game starting with the first, I consider this to be the best one in the series. Civ4 was horrible, luckily 5 manages to turn the franchise around. Even vanilla (without expansions) is still very fun.

There is a nasty bug where sometimes you just randomly, suddenly die without colliding with anything visible. The dev seems to be aware of it but hasn't fixed it yet. About every sixth of my games has ended this way. But the individual sessions being so short due to the ramping difficulty make it a bit less aggravating. Suprisingly addictive. Once you have the game figured out you can semi-reliably be getting between 500 and 1000 points per run, making the achievements not that daunting. Even though it recently had a permanent price reduction I still think it's too much. But if you can get it with some sort of discount then go for it.

This is not a terrible game. The graphics are nice and the music is excellent. The level design is pretty relaxing as they hold true to the "no puzzles" bit from the description. Classic platforming fun. That being said it does have issues. Really bad hitboxing issues at times, particularly on the larger hazards. And a whole assortment of bugs, none of them gamebreaking, but it's too much overall. Also random crashing - luckily only when loading a new level, not midlevel. If there was a "neutral" or "mixed" option I'd gladly use that instead of "Not recommended". Again, it's not a particularly bad game - it just barely missed the cut. The story mode difficulty is pretty low (that's good) as I completed it on Hardcore on my first attempt and I rarely play platformers.

A bit too repetitive towards the end but ultimately pretty good. There is a lot of variation and randomness in how much I enjoyed the various Gardens. Some are incredibly frustrating, others are a breeze and a pleasure. The unusual soundtrack is great and fits the game very well.

This game has become my personal gold standard for comfyness. Which I would have not expected from a game with action elements. But the audio, the environments, the exploration and the writing combine to create a mega atmospheric whole. It does have its flaws but they only seem to add to the charm in the end. Strongly recommended for when you want to go on an enchanting caribbean adventure.

What can I say? My teenage years were in a large part defined by this game (pity about those hundreds of hours disappearing from record). This game is the reason I made a Steam account to begin with. This game made me love online gaming (even if it's a tough, one-way love). One of the first breakout e-sports (alongside Starcraft) and a significant influence on the FPS genre. A piece of gaming history. Play it if only for that, and see for yourself.

If you happen to have played Savage or Natural Selection, you'll feel right at home. The graphics are suprisingly good for a 2011 game - I was stunned by some of the interiors. There are some flaws though. The guns feel weird (in a bad way) and movement is floaty. The inclusion of ironsights irks me to no end. In terms of size the community is completely dead by my standards (2 servers at the best of times), although at least what remains is friendly. The amount of commander buildings/research is roughly on par with Natural Selection 1 - whch has always been too little IMO. The potental for massive turnarounds is quite low past the first 5-10 minutes, which often leads to drawn out, rather pointless games. With all that said, I am able to still recommend the game, but mostly to people who are already fans of the genre (FPS-RTS hybrid).
