Manifold Garden has been compared to games like Antichamber, NaissanceE, Fez, and Portal. The comparisons are warranted, although MG is very much its own game. One could say Antichamber is more challenging, Portal is better because of this or that, etc., but it's a bit petty to judge a game in relation to other titles. Brass tacks: is Manifold Garden worth your money and time? In my opinion, yes. Absolutely.

What to expect: First-person exploration and puzzle solving in recursive spaces. It's like being trapped in a box made of mirrors, except you can go through the walls of the box in every reflected direction, which creates a rather effective illusion of infinity. It's pretty darn interesting. It's also pretty darn difficult to put into words. In terms of visuals, the game looks downright beautiful, with its bizarre landscapes and floating architecture that repeats itself like atoms in a crystal lattice. Awe inspiring stuff.

Length-wise, it's a short-ish experience (my first playthrough was about nine hours long), unless you're aiming to unlock every achievement without the assistance of a guide - in which case, best of luck to you. On a regular playthrough, the puzzles are rather on the easy side, but I believe this game was always meant to be more an aesthetic experience than something to rack people's brains. The music and sound design certainly contribute immensely in that direction.

There really isn't a story there, at least not anything obvious, given the deeply abstract nature of the whole thing, but - all in all, it's a very interesting and unusual game. Definitely worth checking.
