Early Access Review
This is just the most gorgeous little art toy. I find it very soothing.

Space operas are in short supply, and if there's one thing that Rebel galaxy does well, it's nailing the feel of a space opera. Western-themes may be a staple of the genre (FireFly, StarCraft), but the soundtrack and environmental colour grading really help to sell the setting. Voice acting and facial animation are unexpected but welcome in a game at this price point.

Sadly, the gameplay does hold up in the long run. The grind escaltes throughout the game, and there isn't much increase in combat variety or tactical depth beyond the first couple of systems.

If you see this game on sale, pick it up for a few hours of unadulterated space opera. And if the developers decide to update the game (or release a sequel), I'm more than ready to come back to experience whatever they come up with.

Pros:
- Fantastic soundtrack reminiscent of Firefly (the TV show).
- Gorgeous 3D planets, nebulae, and asteroid fields.
- Broadsidebased combat in a 2D movement model feels like ship combat in Assasin's Creed, removes a lot of the issues these games usually face.
- Overall feels a lot like old 2D spacesim favourites like the Escape Velocity series.
- Warp/cruise system pretty good at reducing time spent staring at space (though not perfect).
- Choice of ship addons materially affects combat feel.

Cons:
- Enemy dificulty ramps very quickly, especially after the first solar system.
- Grinding for cash to buy bigger/better ships is tedious.
- Trade and mining are innefective ways to make cash.
- Story missions are very linear.
