I can't really recommend purchasing this game in the current state that it's in. Most of what I have to say is negative and pertains to the SWBF (not SWBFII) part of the collection. Aside from generally being an eyesore with awful upscaled textures and broken collision, with the same old bugs (and some new ones), not to mention the awful new typeface, they had to break mod compatibility for the game, the one thing that has really kept it in any relevance for the past decade or so. I don't have much faith in Aspyr to set things right but if they do I will update this review. One thing I will say that is an improvement over the current digital release is the multiplayer which I think does feel better with hit reg and generally better feel for the movement.

I don't know what to say. I've been playing this game for years. First on PS2 and then on PC. I have the disc version of this game and let me tell you, this is nothing like it. I decided to buy after hearing that there was a replacement for the Multiplayer servers that got shut down in 2012. I boot it up and notice that there's been a few changes. They fixed the menus that were always at 800x600. I thought to myself, "That's nice. Looks pretty good." I go through settings and set everything to my liking. Then I decided to check out the Multiplayer. I get to the lobby and look for a server and the game freezes while loading the server list. I alt tab open task manager and kill the process. I then launch up the game and try again. No crash on loading the server list this time but I got to refresh it and yet another freeze. So, I restart the game and do it again only for another freeze. So I decide to check out the Singleplayer after being demoralized by the freezes. I launch up Geonosis, my favorite map, and as soon as I spawn in my heart sinks into my stomach. The view distance has been absolutely obliterated on this version of the game. It's so hideous. On the disc version it looks great but not here. I then decide to see what else horrors await me. I exit out of the map and go to Kashyyyk: Islands. It's even worse. By this point I've essentially given up. They turned some of the most aesthetically pleasing maps in the game series into a flaming pile of refuse. I exit out and decide to try the Multiplayer one last time and it freezes while loading the server list. What a way to end it. 17 minutes of my life I'll never get back. I cannot recommend this version of the game, unless you are desperate for multiplayer. If you want to play singleplayer I suggest getting the CD version you'll enjoy it far more. Don't bother wasting your time and money here.

Some screenshots. Keep in my mind my settings are maxed.

Edit: Decided to give it another try, was able to get into a server after 2 more crashes. Left to change servers and crashed 2 more times.

Edit 2: I decided to keep the game hoping that they would improve it with patches and I will say it has improved. They have re-introduced lowres terrain generation back into the game and it looks graphically the same as the CD/DVD versions of the game. Multiplayer has improved quite a bit as well but it still has occasional freezes when logging into GOG Galaxy.
The servers are also worse than Gamespy's. There is significantly less shot registration, the pings are higher even compared to Gamespy even with servers that are in the same location and have the same settings, the servers seem to hang on the stats screen more too as well as having more animation sync issues. It also seems that effects seem to not generate as much on Galaxy, it can be quite annoying to die from invisible laser bolts. For the first two weeks the Multiplayer was quite active but has slowly decayed into there barely being a peak of a dozen or so players online at a time. There are also some unresolved issues carried over from the last patch such as the crouch bug where if you crouch, un-crouch and then crouch again you get sent straight into prone and this happens even when you wait a reasonable time before crouching again, 10-15 seconds. At this point I still can't recommend it, it took them over two months to re-add lowres terrain after removing I don't have high hopes for fixing crouching any time soon as well as the persistent terribleness of the Multiplayer.

Edit 3: I would also like to add some things about managing servers in the recent updates. Vote booting abusive players does not work as intended. Sometimes you can vote boot people, other times you can't, it just stops working for whatever reason. There is also no way to ban them currently either, so enjoy getting team killed by other people and your online experience ruined because Disney doesn't think it's a good idea to have a way for hosts to remove abusive players in an online game.

Edit 4: It's been over a month since the last update and I honestly think it will be the last. There's not really any communication from Disney about the game. Crouching is still broken and the multiplayer has been getting worse. I have noticed, for me, that the game has been freezing more often on the MP lobby when logging in or after leaving a server. It's a shame because if they could fix these bugs I could finally recommend purchasing this game.

Edit 5: They released patch 1.3.7(4) a couple months to address some issues with Multiplayer. It's made it possible to host dedicated MP servers without them crashing when using team chat. Though it seems pings are worse with this latest patch.

Edit 6: It's not been updated again. Probably never will be. It's still busted and MP is dead and unplayable.
