Been a while since I've played a game like this. Eastward reminds me so much of Legend of Mana.

The controls are straightforward enough, although rebinding the keys was a bit confusing from the title menu, because you apparently have to start the game itself to properly rebind the keys.

The story so far is mighty interesting!

The narrator is a cross between Sir David Attenborough narrating a BBC Wildlife documentary, and Sir Stephen Fry narrating an episode of Pocoyo. The gibberish the animals speak is some form of Ewok-ish speech.

Combat is DMC-lite. Press buttons in sequence to pull off a combo, do 3 combos in sequence to get a time-limited super mode. You can also just do away with combos and just blast everyone.

Exploration is GORGEOUS, even at low to medium settings.

Crafting is very well done, and in line with the idea of recycling stuff.

The fable it tells as part of its overarching narrative is a fable about environmental conservation. That's it.

If you have the money and you like DMC-lite, open-world 3rd-person looter-shooters, this is the game for you.

I mostly enjoy this for its Character Creator, and its Build Mode. It's a nice time-waster once you get the hang of exploiting the traits mechanic to boost your profits and have your Sim swimming in cash indefinitely.
