Great by itself. Great with mods. Great alone. Great with friends.

Devs still updating it after so many years after release.

Satisfying game, great soundtrack. Usually I turn music down or off, this game I turned it up.

Only thing it lacks is replay value but I got over 30 hours out of it before I got 100% completion so I'm happy.

Amazing game if you're at all a creative or technical type. Maybe not so much if you're less the "finish quests" type of player.

My only complaint is that there's a number of "quality of life" things they could have done to make the base game better, and even after 7 years of development they haven't done, but they instead seem to outsource a lot of that stuff to mods instead.

Clearly not enough to keep me from playing the game quite a lot though.

I had a negative review up before because it kept crashing. I liked the game but I stepped away from it because of the crashing.

A few months later I found out my PC had been running on bad RAM for a while. I don't know why 7DTD was far more sensitive about it than most other things, but as soon as I replaced it, no crashes since then.

My complaint about there not being earlier autosaves to revert to is still valid, as is my complaint that it's spent far too long in early access, but my main issue ended up being hardware and the game is still fun enough to play apart from all that now that it doesn't crash any more.

In theory this game ticks all the boxes for things I would want in a game.

In practice, everything just seems too slow:
* Your character walks too slow, so traveling from your base to the various points of interest is a massive slog
* Most abilities other than basic attacks often have a warm-up period where you're nailed to the ground for a few moments doing nothing waiting for it to start
* Refining the base resources you pick up into the advanced ones you need to craft takes forever (to be fair, you can leave the crafter running while you go adventuring, but it means there is an infuriating delay between the time you arrive at your base with a load of goods and the time you can use them)
* The day-night cycles mean that you can't realistically do anything that could get you in a fight during daytime, so far too often I found myself waiting for the next day to start before starting a big fight, or before trying to track one of the named enemies around the map, which means 10+ minutes of waiting for the in-gaming timing to be right for the next thing you want to do

There are some compensations to the problems I mention (a fast travel form, teleportation waypoints) but those are countered by their annoyances (breaks on combat, can't carry any crafting materials) as well.

It's like Factorio but on spheres and in space... what more could you want?

I actually like this game, I just can't recommend it when they keep bringing it to the edge of unplayability with a patch... again and again. If they can release 3 updates in a row without breaking the game then maybe I'll consider making this review positive.

I bought this game because I was getting the COVID vaccine and I wanted a game that could be played with just the mouse while my other arm was sore. It says I played it for over 40 hours though really it was more like 30, because I would leave it running while I did other things sometimes.

30 hours for the price is still pretty good. The only thing I would say is that when it reaches the end part (when you're down to the last 5 achievements) it starts to REALLY get hard to make any progress. You either have to hope for a "lucky" run, where you get just the right random powerups to make it to the end of the level and get the core, or you have to do a very slow and deliberate run where you take your time and plot out a run where you drill through the least damaging areas... but the problem with a deliberate run is that usually either the moving enemies or the environmental hazards don't let up to let you take enough time to be deliberate, so it doesn't work. I gave up there, slightly frustrated that I couldn't 100% finish the game, but 12 bucks for 30 hours is still worth it so it still gets a thumbs up from me.

Update, for anyone who cares: Seems that the devs got enough feedback like this to rebalance the endgame. It's still a grind, but it's a grind that you can progress on instead of one that you slam your head into. I'm now down to just one achievement left and I might still go for that one just to get 100%.

It's pretty cool.

Just know that it's still in development...

This game was fun at the start but later on I found a few inexcusable flaws.

1. No in-game map
2. No auto-save system
3. No reliable method of recovering items after death

I played for quite a while, was doing pretty OK and having fun. Then I made the "mistake" of going into an area with leviathans in it (no real warning, I heard a loud roar, turned back to go home, but it was too late). Died horribly.

Now I had a problem:
There was no auto-save, only one save slot, and my last save was something like 2.5 hours earlier. I didn't want to lose all of that progress, so I didn't reload. Any modern game should have had a decent auto-save system allowing me to back up 10 minutes before I ventured into the leviathan area.
There was no map, so I only had a vague idea of where I was when I died. In a 3D aquatic environment with very few landmarks and very restricted visibility, it's even worse than a normal 3D game.
There is no indicator on the HUD of where I died. I knew the general area, but the giant leviathans killed me a couple more times as I searched for my dropped items. I'm pretty sure they dropped to a level so deep that I couldn't get to them with the gear I had without suffocating, in any case.

Sure, some of this can be resolved by using console commands, getting maps from the wiki, or installing mods, but this game left out 3 features that have been gameplay staples in similar games for over a decade. The argument can be made that they were left out of the game to make it more challenging or realistic, but the developers thought ahead enough to have 4 separate game modes to allow different challenge levels that add and remove different mechanics, and it wouldn't have been that hard to add these things to allow for a level between "you can't die" (creative) and "dying may cost you 1-5 hours of progress" (all other modes).
