Musou games are a guilty pleasure for me and always have been. While I don't think this one is as good as WO3, WO4 still provides some amusing power fantasy for people who want to turn their brains off and beat up Japanese facsimiles of European deities.

After putting this game off for a very long time, I finally picked it up alongside a good friend from a Humble Bundle package. At first I went into this game already knowing about its reputation and all the memes about how bad it was, but I really wanted that to be people exaggerating and overblowing things. To some extent that's still true, the graphics and overall playability is good enough for you to enjoy it without being taken out of the game and all that. However, where the game excels in looks and capturing the spirit of Gotham (at least from animated media), just about everything else falls pretty flat. Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood are all quite boring characters, whose struggles to come into their own feels like every other story about the same subject and only small references to their backstories keep them anywhere resembling unique. Going through this story as them didn't really feel like an impactful journey and more just an excuse to see Batgirl or Nightwing in tights or something. Just about every story bead was real simple, so simple that an elementary school kid would probably be able to guess parts of the story before they happened just because of how... well, clueless the writing is. For something like Batman, where the focus is on investigations and analysis of criminal motives, a whole lot of it is just you happening to see a guy leave and then tailing him until he just tells you what he was doing.

Without elaborating too much, I can sum it up as being disappointed in the game.
