10/10, Miyazaki has no chance to even come close to this game.

Act III is definitely polished and bug-free, the companion quest lines definitely get satisfying conclusions, the tadpoles are definitely impactful to the story, and the endings definitely are not on the same level as Mass Effect 3.

97/100 GOTY, brb after taking a stroll through "the opulent estates of the Upper City" that the developers were very proud of just two months before the release.

Way too many reused regular mobs, bosses, and bosses used as regular mobs. It's not as glaring in the beginning of the game when everything is still new to the player, but it becomes painfully obvious later. It doesn't help that every location after Leyndell is as bland-looking as Dark Souls 2 and as infuriating as Dark Souls 1. The Mountaintops of the Giants, Haligtree, and Farum Azula are mostly a mess of white, gray, and brown in different proportions. This is also when the game turns into a slog.

The Mountaintops are just boring. Its major highlight is a dual-wielding knight in Castle Sol. He is harder than most bosses in this game. I suggest that you aggro him and use a spirit summon immediately after entering Niall's arena. There's a good chance the knight follows you, and it really adds to the unforgettable experience, because otherwise Niall is pretty boring. The Fire Giant is also mediocre. I don't think he has too much health, but like with all giant bosses in the series, fighting him comes down to simply hitting his leg while not seeing anything because of the camera. He also managed to kill me during the cutscene, huge kudos to Miyazaki. This area also has a ton of graveyards with skeletons that have too much HP, and who you have no reason to fight. There is also a recycled for no reason Astel, previosly major boss of Ranni's questline.

Speaking of the Haligtree: getting there involves being machine-gunned with arrows while jumping across the roofs and trying to find four fires that have to be lit. Oh, and on the ground there are also assassins (that are invisible unless you are carrying a special torch) that constantly use grab attacks, yet they really pale in comparison to the archers. Thankfully, Miyazaki must have had a bathroom break, and you don't need to light all of the fires in one go. After reaching the Haligtree, the platforming adventures continue, and you have to jump across the tree branches filled with amazing (not) loot and interesting and never-seen-before (not) enemies. And you will also probably get machine-gunned with bubbles after trying to proceed further. This whole section afterwards is filled with reused enemies, and it ends with another boring bossfight with another boring Loretta.

Elphael is another area filled with recycled enemies that have way too much HP, but now with a scarlet bog as a bonus. You're better off just running and not bothering with enemies. Well, at least Melania is a better boss than Loretta.

Now that I think about it, Farum Azula is actually pretty okay gameplay-wise. Placidusax is actually good. Maliketh is a case of a precycled boss, but otherwise okay. Godskin Duo is terrible, already appearing multiple times separately and once together. The Mohgwyn Palace is actually more frustrating, although I might have been underleveled for that, but Mohg is a good bossfight (reused!).

To sum up, the endgame is not challenging, its locations are just extremely tedious. It gets better in the very end, although Gideon and Hoarah Loux are way too easy. The game would also not have felt as cheap and lazy if it had been smaller, but not filled with the same enemies; reusing major bosses is an absolutely terrible decision. I don't feel like replaying Elden Ring and killing the same bosses multiple times in one playthrough is fun, but if you don't kill them and level up vigor, the knight of Castle Sol will probably play ping-pong with you as the ball.

Meh.
