Fun game slowly being made worse and worse by dumb developer/management decisions.

Soon the game will require a Playstation account to login and play. No, I will not let Sony farm my data and sell it to third parties. That's it. Plus they're notoriously bad with securing user data in the videogame industry.

I will continue to play the game for the next couple weeks until this change goes into effect. Then I will simply stop playing. If they somehow decide to change their policy on this in the future I will revise this review.

***EDIT: Sony has completely walked back their decision to force Playstation Account linking. So I don't have too many gripes with the game. The developers do make some questionable balance choices that will probably hurt the game in the long run, and there are a large number of bugs that straight up hard crash the game. But other than those two things, everything else with the game is good. It's a fun co-op shooter.

This game is overtly very inspired from the Jet Set Radio franchise. They know EXACTLY what was appealing about those games and they took that and put it into this game. First game I've played in a while where I thought to myself "SOUL".

More than anything else I'm relieved to know that even if SEGA completely botches the revival of Jet Set Radio with their new game, that there are devs still out there who can still capture the magic from the Dreamcast days.

-Poorly optimized.
-Tons of bugs.
-Game crashes.
-Connection issues constantly.
-Missing several features that were promised at launch.
-Tons of stupid design decisions. (Especially frustrating because you would think that with all the improvements that FatShark between Vermintide 1 and 2 that they would've learned a lot about game design, but apparently they just forgot about most of it when designing this game)
-Typical predatory microtransactions which would probably have been overlooked by most of the playerbase if the game was actually a finished product.

The core gameplay is fun. Will probably be a good game in a year or two after many updates.

*****EDIT:

So about 2 years later after the game's launch, it's finally in pretty decent shape. They fixed many of the bugs, and there aren't really any connection issues anymore. They have reworked many systems in the game to be more fleshed out and interesting.

The only major problem that I listed in my original version of this review that still persists is that FatShark still has stupid design decisions that they haven't really addressed.

There is also another minor issue that I feel like consumers should be in mind of if you buy and start playing this game: FatShark takes REALLY REALLY LONG vacations. I know it sounds like a weird thing to mention in a review, but they seriously take so many months off in the year that the game actually only gets a couple decently sized updates to the game usually around September-November. And they take that vacation REGARDLESS of the current state of the game, so just don't expect the game to constantly be changing throughout the year. Honesty, the current version of the game should have been achieved about a year ago, but because of the long breaks in updates it took about as twice as long.

But yeah the game is generally in a good state now and I can honestly recommend playing it if you like Left 4 Dead style games and enjoy making MMO-lite skill builds.

One of the best F2P games avaliable on Steam. Don't spend platinum to buy weapons/frames. Aside from cosmetics and slots, everything can be unlocked fairly easily by just playing (you can trade items for in game currency pretty easily as well).

The game goes through pretty dramatic update cycles. The current game barely resembles the one released at launch at this point. It's good to come back and check the new systems they've implemented every once in a while.

Great combat and movement systems. Scratches an itch by letting you slaughter millions of people and critters.

If you enjoy turn-based strategy games, definitely give this a try. Imagine the Fire Emblem or X-com games, but instead of a top-down panel system, it uses a limited meter to allow you to freely roam with a third person camera/controls.
