Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour is one of those rare games that defines an era. I grew up playing Command & Conquer throughout my childhood, and I still remember the sheer excitement when Generals and then Zero Hour released as new games back in the day. The modern setting, distinct factions, unforgettable units, and over-the-top voice lines made it feel fresh while still being unmistakably C&C. It wasn’t just a game you played once — it was something you sank years into with skirmishes, LAN games, and online battles.

Coming back to it now, Zero Hour still holds up incredibly well. The gameplay is fast, competitive, and endlessly replayable, whether you’re into casual AI matches or high-level multiplayer. There’s a depth here that many modern RTS games still struggle to match, and the expansion’s Generals, units, and challenges only enhance what was already a brilliant foundation.

Now is an especially fantastic time to pick up Zero Hour. With the source code having been released, the community is in a better position than ever to support, improve, and preserve the game for the future. This has breathed new life into an already loyal player base and makes it easier than ever for newcomers to jump in and experience the game we all know and love — often with modern fixes, balance updates, and active multiplayer support.

If you do pick it up, make sure to check out these community resources:

gamereplays.org: a long-standing hub for the Generals/Zero Hour community, featuring strategy guides, forums, replays from top players, and balance discussions.

generals.online: a modern platform that helps keep multiplayer alive, making it easier to play online, find matches, and connect with the active Zero Hour community today.

Zero Hour isn’t just nostalgia, it’s a living RTS classic that continues to thrive thanks to its passionate community. Whether you’re returning after years away or discovering it for the first time, this is one of the best RTS experiences you can still have.

Login system does not work. Can't play the game at all without getting past 3rd party login.

Absolute best community of any racing game I have ever played. Great racing action across many different series and disciplines.

Prepare your wallet, Racing will for sure make a dent but worth every penny, in my personal opinion.

Look to take advantage of new member subscription deal and then extend subscription through iRacing directly at black friday sales.

Have a great time and happy racing!

I had to get this game to do justice to younger me. I feel like the young child reading the books as they came out all over again. The level design, dialogue and story - so far - have felt true to the universe while also being original and intriguing.

I've lost count of the amount of times I've audibly exclaimed, "Oh wow!" and, "No way - that's so cool!" You don't need to be familiar with the universe to play and enjoy the game without feeling like you're missing key information but the way the game nods towards things we know from the books and have seen in the films has given me goosebumps on multiple occasions already.

Honestly a beautiful game and experience!

Other than some of the twitch prime skins looking like a fortnite pyjama party the game feels to be in a good state. Vulkan support makes the game run very smooth now and the new 'Unranked' queue is very welcome. Swapping sides every round in casual makes it difficult to learn maps and characters but playing in an unranked queue in the same format as ranked is a great addition.

Overall fun game when played with friends and not taken too seriously. Can't speak for ranked, this is not a game I ever see myself enjoying competitively. The best way I can describe why I don't see myself enjoying the came competitively is it's just too fiddly and there are too many gimmicky strats to be aware of in my opinion. Maybe that's because I'm a noob though.

Received for free and still not worth it. 'Full controller support' should not be a tag on this game.

Such a shame, this game had such potential, but with 1 short level and the second level not even a quarter finished it's an unfinished product and not worth the money.
