As one of the few Halos I never played, I thought it would be fun to finally play through it. I was very much disappointed by what Halo CE had to offer.

Let's start with the positives:
- The first four missions were great. They all flowed well and each offered a new and refreshing change in scenery and gameplay.
- Weapons are fun. They feel powerful and have great animations and sounds. I especially enjoyed how the assault rifle actually felt like it did damage, as in later Halos it was one of the weakest spartan weapons.
- The remastered graphics look really nice, and are definitely worth using over the original if you can.
- Combat is decent. It's just like any other Halo; it gets the job done.

Sounds pretty fun right? I thought it was until I reached the fifth mission.

Every mission from the fifth and beyond was a complete mess. The level-design went out the window. It got reduced to spamming hordes of enemies at Master Chief as you backtrack your way through a level you previously went through. This aspect made me want to just stop playing multiple times after getting lost in levels where each room looks exactly the same. Most levels lack any sort of objective marker, which is sorely needed in some of the levels. The amount of enemy spam and damage was so absurd at times that I questioned if I accidentally set the difficulty to legendary. Mind you, I played on normal.

I only recommend it if you are already a fan of Halo. Otherwise, don't bother. 5/10.

I just finished my first playthrough at 50 hours. Here are my pros and cons.

Pros:
- Tons of build variety and playstyles.
- The world is immersive and lived in.
- Quality NPCs and extensive dialogue options.
- Diverse selection of weapons and armor.
- Player's actions are very impactful.
- The pace of the game is set by the player. Do whatever and go wherever, for the most part.

Cons:
- Gameplay is clunky.
- Early game can be rough in terms of overall survival. Took me some getting used to.
- Can crash randomly even with mods that attempt to fix them.

I recommend this game if you enjoy roleplaying in games, and can deal with getting it up and running with some stability mods with occasional crashes. Overall, 8/10.
