This game, I don't even know what to say. This ****ing game. It's like minesweeper, you get a random wisp of inspiration and attempt to progress slightly further and then boom. You're staring at the first level again, upset, mad, you rage quit. You go back to work, and then... that inspiration comes again. This time you make it back to where you were and quit. You're content.

Rinse and repeat, you'll never get to the top. Don't bother trying.

Watching this game evolve, and the care the developer took into maintaining the core philosophy of the game has provided a nearly unique experience that makes this game one of the most gratifying to play. I thought this game initially was providing accessibility to Dwarf Fortress, it morphed into it's own category and genre of game that should be acknowledged.

The in-depth lives you can follow at a micro level, builds an enjoyable story with both comedic and tragic points. If you're not into the micro stories, you can play a colony builder at a macro level, having meaningful impacts on diplomatic ties.

Update:
Still completely engrossed in this game, I come back to it once a month and lose an entire 3-4 days to it. It's so good.

While the DLC's sometimes rub me the wrong way, Cities Skylines provides new goals, motives, and adds another complexity to the game with each DLC. I have happily purchase each one, when I was able to.

The latest DLC (Industries) revamps what zoning means in a city builder. It allows you to specifically setup supply chains within industry areas, while allowing the core mechanics of zoning to work around you. It's a seamless blend.

When you're tired of supply chains, you can microdesign with Parks, make a living habitat for your cims and a wonderful happiness bonus to boot!

Early Access Review
Not only does this game actually teach you some orbital mechanics, you're actively running your mind developing new missions and vessels. Prior to steam, I dumped easily 150 hours into this game and I havent gotten bored.
