Edit as of December 23rd 2024, as the game has announced it's closure, after months of duplication glitches and the team moving forward:

The game has been announced to be closing at the end of the year, which means as of writing, the game will be shut down in less than 2 weeks. Not the best ending for the game, but it is an ending. When i wrote this review, the game was dying with little to no support and the updates and new items were pretty lackluster. Duplication glitches were found and the economy started getting horrible but not to the extent of a couple months ago. The game was announced in October 2024 to be shutting down at the end of the year which prompted the duplication glitch to go public. The game is impossible to play now. Every world has hundreds of duplicated items and seeds dropped on the ground. Your entire inventory will either be filled with hundreds of items you can't delete or your game will crash. The chat is being spammed 24/7 with scams, this also causes the game to slow down and potentially crash. I definitely would have hoped that a new dev team would've been able to fix the holes in the games anticheat and the duplication bugs. The game had an immense amount of potential and you could tell it was far from over, but the developers at Kukouri Mobile Entertainment just deemed the game at its end point and chose to move on. The old employee and community manager for the game, Jake, returned to do a final livestream on the December 19th. The livestream was genuinely a really great bonding moment. Jake gave more information on the current workings of him and the old team, information on the new game they're working on, Nexus Station, which I recommend you play once the game is released. I'm absolutely not a fan of the artstyle but i think the game will go in a good direction, but I don't believe it will take off or ever have the same charm pixel worlds has. The livestream had appearances from the old team and gave insights on the future. The stream ends with Jake crying with all the admins and mods ingame with all the players doing one last mass dive inside the first ever pixel worlds world "Pool". I loved this game to pieces and was there was almost the absolute beginning and im sad to see it go. I can't wait to see what happens to Kukouri Mobile Entertainment, Jake and the old development team, Nexus Station, and other games that try to imitate the feeling that Pixel Worlds had.

This review is from before the game announced its shutdown, and before the duplication glitches, but during the "Drout" of no development team and no active moderation:

i started playing this game is in the summer of 2017.
I have 3,747 hours on it and it was legit a super fun and enjoyable game.
Nowadays, it's become pretty mediocre. The only way to have fun and do actual things in the game is to be rich (which is pretty much impossible for new players)
Every cool/useful item or objective comes with a hefty price.
I was an active member of the pixel worlds community, I was friends with a lot of mods and icons in the community.
I honestly loved the game to pieces and even despised it's competitor game, Growtopia, because of it.
I quit playing the game in late 2020/ early 2021 because the game stopped being fun.
The game wasn't being actively updated anymore, all the active and iconic members of the community were quitting the game for not being engaging anymore.
Around this time, many mods and admins were quitting work on pixel worlds.
As of now, there are only 3 people left from the original dev team as they are trying to transition to the new team. These final 3 people are NOT coders, game artists or game designers so no new updates, events or even items will be in the game until the transition is complete. This means that all event items in the game are going on rotation which means there will be no reason to play in any events since they will be the exact same items as the last event. There will be too much of that item with very little demand meaning that the price of these items with crash and cause the games economy to go WAYYYY down.
The last update was mediocre and was around 7 months ago from when i'm writing this review and it this train of bad updates started around 2020. The only updates the game really gets anymore is season updates like halloween and christmas and some spring cleaning updates where they add community requested items and features but thats about it

Pixel Worlds was a ridiculously fun and addicting game but got very stale after a while. Not much many og players are left in the game and most of the people who play anymore are diehard fans who will do anything to make this game not die, but in a way, Pixel Worlds has already died. Its not the game is used to be, there was a charm in building worlds and completing quests, but now its all just a big trading and gambling game. If you get bored of Pixel Worlds and are aching for another game like it, I recommend playing Growtopia instead.
Growtopia is also following a trend of being a big trading and gambling game but there are actually cool quests and objectives to complete in Growtopia, unlike Pixel Worlds. But I will say, the game is infinitely harder and SO DISGUSTINGLY UGLY that it just pushes me off from playing.

This game brought me years worth of enjoyment and I will always thank it, the community and the developers for making this amazing game. I've been with it almost since the beginning and I've seen it evolve and change for better or for worse. I've seen all the ups and downs.

To be fair, you can still hop into the game from time to time and still enjoy the events and get some hours of entertainment still, but the thought that there will be nothing new in the game just makes me sad. The games servers have been paid for another 2 years, if the remaining or future dev team decides to not pay for the servers again. This game is basically on a 2 year expiration date.

I love Pixel Worlds with all my heart, but at the state the game is in right now, I can't recommend it.
