Wow, removing 75% of the weapons and only adding 5% very cool bungie. Also removing well over half the game and not adding anything close to that

TL;DR
This game is absolutely worth the $60 USD. If you can get the game on sale, which it frequently goes for $15 USD on sale! A must buy, especially during a sale.

Oh boy, where do I start

This game is amazing, I cannot put this game down. One of the best I have played. I have condensed my thoughts into one review. Have no fear! Spoilers are NOT here.

Bosses

The bosses of this game are some of the most memorable of the series. Containing a total of 19 bosses in the base game and 6 bosses spread between the DLCs; 2 bosses in the first, and 4 in the second. There are 6 optional bosses, 12 if you include the DLCs which you do not have to defeat in order to beat the game.

Variety/Diversity

Weapons

Weapons fall into certain types, these types include:
  • Daggers
  • Straight Swords
  • Greatswords
  • Ultra Greatswords
  • Curved Swords
  • Piercing Swords
  • Axes
  • Greataxes
  • Hammers
  • Great Hammers
  • Fists & Claws
  • Spears & Pikes
  • Halberds
  • Reapers
  • Whips
  • Bows
  • Greatbows
  • Crossbows
  • Staves
  • Flames
  • Talismans
  • Sacred Chimes
As you can see, there seems to be a lot of weapon diversity; however this is not the case. Many weapons share what's called a 'moveset'. So basically, weapons share the same attacks and types of attacks. This makes the weapons feel like a copy & paste. Weapon diversity is not a strong suit for this game, something a lot of players complain about.

Armor

Armor is not as important as the weapon you choose. You could use the same set of armor for the majority of your playthrough. Armor is basically just for fashion. However, there are plenty of armor sets to use and pieces to interchange. There is plenty of variety with certain pieces granting increased stats and decreased weight.

Builds

Build diversity is non existent in this game. It takes much more effort to get a build working for certain builds compared to others. Not many people run Magic and Faith builds for a reason. Magic and Faith builds require much more effort in terms of gear, rings, tools, and stats. This game basically forces you to use a strength or dexterity build. Many players state this as a major complaint when talking about the game.

DLCs

Ashes of Ariandel

Ashes of Ariandel, the first DLC for this game, was lackluster to say the least. Featuring only 2 bosses, this DLC is short, extremely short. The final boss of the DLC is the only good boss. At $15 USD, it is not worth it. Buying the Season Pass at $25 USD gets you both DLCs. You are essentially paying $10 USD for Ashes of Ariandel which is a better price for what you get from the DLC. Only buy the Season Pass if you were planning on getting both DLCs though.

The Ringed City

The Ringed City, Dark Souls 3's second and final DLC, is much longer compared to the first. It hosts 4 bosses, all memorable and amazing. The Ringed City has 2 main areas of the game. The first area which contains the first boss of the DLC. After defeating said boss, you are taken to the second area; which is much larger than the first area. The Ringed City also has, in my opinion, the best boss in the game. This DLC is absolutely worth the $15 USD.

Covenants

Covenants are a sort of clan you join. There are a total of 8 covenants, 7 in the base game and one in the DLC. The 7 covenants each have their own reward you turn in to level up the covenant, save for one covenant which shares rewards with another. 7 of 8 covenants have a rank system which gives you a reward for leveling up that covenant. One rank up at 10 rewards turned in and a second rank up at a total of 30 rewards turned in. The covenants are not something a lot of players are going to farm. Farming the required items to level up one's covenant can be very tedious. 6 covenants require PVP, while only 1 does not. The covenant that does not require PVP, can be done in either PVP or Co-op.

PVP

The PVP has seen complaints from a lot of players from the community. The lack of build diversity in the game leads to boring and pointless PVP. The incentives for PVPing is also lacking in a lot of areas. The game has 3 PVP modes, one would call it. The rewards include covenant rewards, Embers, a consumable to be able to summon in an invader or a friendly and gain more health, and Souls, the game's currency. Rewards are available depending on the mode of PVP you choose.
  • Invading another player's world
  • Getting summoned via summoning sign
  • The PVP arena*
*You have to own either Ashes of Ariandel or The Ringed City to participate in the PVP arena. One has to unlock the arena before you can participate. Both DLCs offer a way to unlock the arena.

Invading another player's world:
This happens when one uses a consumable to be spawned in another player's world to PVP. The item can be a consumable in the early game, while the unlimited use version is found later in the game. Invading another player's world when one uses the consumable and the person getting invaded is in an Embered state.

Getting summoned via summoning sign:
There are many spots the community have deemed a great place to PVP. In these areas, one can find many red, purple with red mixed in, and yellow with red mixed in. The different colors represent which covenant the invader is in. Summoning an invader this way is what people did when they wanted to fight before the first DLC, which introduced the PVP arena, known as Hollow Arena or Undead Match. There are rewards available to this method of PVP.

The PVP Arena(DLC only):
The Hollow Arena was introduced in the Ashes of Ariandel DLC, but the player only needs one DLC to participate in the arena. One has to unlock the PVP arena before they can participate. Both DLCs offer a way to unlock it. The PVP arena has 2 game types, Duel and Brawl. In Duel, the player has only one life and limited healing. While Brawl has unlimited lives and the player with the most kills wins. The PVP arena hosts 4 maps, where players can fight. The incentives to play in the arena is non existent. The rewards for the PVP arena are not the same as the others. The only reward are badges, which can level up one's honor rank. One's honor rank from duels only shows in duels, while the honor rank you receive from Brawl can be seen on summoning signs left by the player.

All in all, the PVP can be very fun; but in a gameplay perspective, there aren't enough rewards to justify invasions. You can certainly have fun though!
