The game is mostly fine if you play offline, although lacking in content compared to PoE, which is expected - you can't beat a more mature game on that front.
The launch, however, was not fine. During Early Access devs were warned time and again that netcode is not stable, loading time are bad, there are desync issues, etc. We've been told that it's temporary - who wants to roll out additional servers for 2-3k concurrent players during the EA stage, after all.
Turns out we were right, the netcode is bad, online play is still as bad and for many ever worse on release. With that attitude from the Dev team i cannot recommend spending money on this game to anyone, when PoE is free to play.

12/2023 update:

The game receive many fixes and decent content/balance patches since initially disappointing release.
I can now recommend it to anyone, who wants to spend 40-50 hours builing ships and see them go against each other in combat.
Campaign system is still a bit basic, but provides some background and progression to your fleets.

I wish we'd see multiplayer battles and easier modding one day, that would truly immortalize this game for the shipbuilding community.

Early Access Review
With all its visual appeal the developers, unfortunately, found themselves in a typical novice "hardcore" gamedesigner trap - they do not respect your time, insisting that micromanagement of every aspect is somehow hard and not just tedious.

* Tiny inventory means you'll have to constantly run around even to do basic shopping. This is probably the reason why enemies mostly drop junk that's not worth picking up.
* Your character needs to sleep and there's day/time cycle. But simply waiting or sleeping whenever you want would be "unrealistic" so you can only sleep a certain amount of time based on your fatigue. Want to sell something, not tired and it's night? Too bad.
* Running from a town to a dungeon is a needless chore. There's no fast travel and past a couple of first levels when bandits are a threat it's just a waste of time. Nothing will happen and you won't pick anything anyway because the inventory is tiny and they don't have anything of value on them.
* Hoards of support and utility skills in a game with a very limited amount of skill points and a need to actually kill enemies. Sure, being able to craft some survival gear is nice, but being able to kill something is much more useful and once you're capable enough in combat you have too much money to care about supplies ever running out.
* Food/drink system. Very rarely works as intended, instead of providing a survival element it usually becomes another annoying chore at the beginning and a timesink once you are rich. Wasted half of your water on the way to the dungeon? Well, too bad, no guarantee there will be water inside so it's time to manually go back to town, grab more water and repeat the cycle. You just wasted 15-20 minutes or died of dehydration.
* Combat doesn't have any depth to it. I know it's hard to make combat system that would require actual player skill in a turn-based game with a single character, but this is just "lure a single enemy, kill, rest, repeat".

The game is at the stage where it can still be salvaged by removing some of its useless "hardcore" mechanics, making combat actually difficult, complex and player skill based, introducing quality of life elements like bags or mules, actually valuable loot from the enemies, allowing you to rest for as much as you want whenever you want, separating utility and combat skills into two parallel systems, etc.
My advice - wait past release. Either the developers will persist in their hubris and conviction to what they consider "challenging" and the game will remain with "mixed" reviews, or they'll see those reviews and introduce time saving and quality of life elements, while also making the game actually "challenging" past the first couple of hours.

Has 5 enjoyable campaigns by the end of which your randomly generated pawns end up as heroes you'll actually care about and look forward to see in the next campaign.
Unfortunately the non-story campaigns, being all random, lack the coherency and depth of the 5 unique ones, so you probably won't get infinite replayability. Will definitely look forward for dlc's with more story campaigns.

It's like Zelda but with variety of builds. Keep in mind - graphics are dated and the game stutters in many areas on pretty much any PC. However if you want a decently sized world that's filled with actually interesting and engaging content (unlike recent ubisoft games) this one will probably keep you interested for hours.

Better than the original Gothinc 2. Everything this mod has to offer is on par with modern games, the only letdown is the dated combat system. Once you get used to it you get a damns nice rpg with a lot of variety in how you progress through it.

Since there's no "neutral review" i'll give it a positive one.
The game was patched by the devs since first release on steam so it works now without any additional fixes needed.

I can't name any obvious flaws with the gameplay, however, for me, it was a bit too simplistic and not engaging enough to keep playing more. Definitely give it a try if you like those old Black and White style indirect strategies and, especially, playing as a dragon.
