I feel the need to clarify, those trying to define this game as "art" or "not art" are barking up the wrong tree. Art is so much more simple than this kind of moronic debate, just accept that it obviously doesn't appeal to everybody. What you'd be buying is essentially a better version of LSD Dream Emulator, if you don't find that concept interesting already, this isn't for you.

Soda Drinker Pro was initially released in 2008 after it's short development time of one day. Over the years it's been worked on and actually has an awful lot of content in it now. I never thought my purchase of digital Soda Drinking Simulation would eventually provide me with an interesting and enjoyable experience.

By the way, I'm not directly talking about Soda Drinker Pro. For some reason, the dude who made this decided to take his Malware looking joke program and put an actual video game in it, it used to be that you had to stare at a rock for about 3 minutes in order to get into the secret game, but you're now required to simply walk through a door in Level 2. In this game, you play as a raindrop and touch different objects, turning into whatever you touch. As previously mentioned, if you know LSD dream emulator just imagine it being like that but with continuety, a higher level of interactivity and a weird amount of work put into it. And honestly as I played more of Vivian clark, the secret game, I started to warm up more to the idea of Soda Drinker Pro itself. A game that looks like another one of those worthless "simulator" games that nobody likes, but has a somewhat secretive cult following because of Vivian Clark.

The most you're gonna get out of Soda Drinker Pro is some laughs, exploring and listening to all the bizarre nonsense the insane narrator spouts. If you want a better version of Soda Drinker Pro, then buy Soda Drinker Pro and play Vivian Clark.

Seems like a cross between the PS2 and PSP ports, and it seems a lot of people still have issues running this game on PC. Be warned before buying that it may not work for you, but refund is always an option. It's also worth noting that the publisher NIS America is a poorly managed disaster zone. Their translations often come out as awkward messes, and many of their release are hard to call a success. So now you're double warned!
Considering this is a port of a game which came to be in 2003, they certainly took their time getting it onto PC. Looks interesting to you and want to get into the series? This review will try to quickly give you an idea of the game without spoiling the things that matter.

As for the game itself, it's a heavily gameplay focused RPG with a story tailored to entertainment value. Things only get serious around the last few chapters. Disgaea heavily values the time players put in, giving you a multitude of ways to strengthen your characters and eventually create a monstrosity that can one-shot everything. However, there isn't much to guide you to making said monstrosity. These things are mostly for the hardcore audience, you can bring characters to level 9999, then bring them back to level 1 with bonuses to make them become even stronger upon their next cycle. If you like a more streamlined, linear experience in games, you'll only really get that by slamming through the main campaign. They explain the basic mechanics of the game, and let you figure out everything else and devise your own strategies, both in gameplay and system. You aren't going to know everything about how to play, or how you want to play right away. To close this off, I think it's a game that you should absolutely own if you enjoy customization, strategy RPG's with strong mechanical depth, pushing the limits of a game and/or grinding.

By the way... This game is lacking in many convenience features that sequels include to make things more fun or, you know, convenient. However I still reccomend playing this game first, as you could easily discredit the earlier games by playing more modern versions. There really are a lot of great features added in later releases, but you might just be missing out on a great game if you play them first.

It's the same great game as it is on consoles, with better graphics in-game, and some welcome changes for a PC port. The lack of in-depth options is dissapointing, and the game has quite a few minor issues that hurt this port. That being said, this port has fantastic netcode! I had 2F delay to somebody in Seattle! That's insane if you consider the before this I've only ever had 2F to a person living near me. For that reason alone, this PC port is a big step up for Arc System Works. It's not rollback, but it's pretty damn good. I recommend this game to anybody interested in fighting games (so long as you don't gush over Elphelt :^) )

I'll now list the issues I've discovered.

  • You can not change your resolution in full screen mode. Full screen is a seperate resolution option.
  • The games UI is from the PS3 port. The in game graphics are not, and neither is the hud. Unfortunately, this makes the menus look awful when upscaled to 1080p. They don't look very good at 720p either.
  • Anti-aliasing seems to have no effect. I can clearly see jaggy lines no matter which option I set my AA to.
  • There are no (obviously) usable configs within the games files. I can not change the settings to optimize it's performance on my system. (This is somewhat alleviated now thanks to a community guide showing me how to downsample from 4K resolution. Game looks pretty great and runs well.)
  • The game seems to be having memory issues for me. If I play the game for quite a while, the framerate will slow down between 30-50 and run extremely poorly.
  • The music may be of slightly lower quality than the music in the PS4 version. As well as this, the character attack sounds are kind of bad. Especially on Axl, I hear awful audio crackle. It's very obnoxious.
  • Player matches are very buggy at the moment, if a lot is going in in public lobbies there seem to be many issues causing players to vanish, be fighting no opponent, or just get kicked out of the lobby. It's a little tricky to play online right now. Ranked matches aren't fairing too well either, I can't play ranked right now due to a bug. The game will claim they declined the match almost instantly, but this happens with all players in ranked mode right now.

This issues aren't the end of the world, but I'm sure we'd all appreciate it if these problems were fixed.

Also, Elphelt should be removed from the game. Not really, but she just doesn't fit in with the cast if you ask me. Who won a competition to get their waifu OC in the game?

An entertaining micromanagement game. It's a top-down RTS game combined with Lemmings.

"Dwarfs" are automatically spawned from a base panel and dig through the dirt surrounding the base. You can give them simple movement commands and make them dig towards various caves or minerals throughout the map. That's a basic rundown, there are many more things you need to worry about but if you want a more in-depth look at how it's played, look up some gameplay.

To those who enjoy going for high scores, and enjoy optimizing their skill in a somewhat complex game, I highly reccomend this game.

I wouldn't reccomend this game to people who want a simple experience, or those who aren't patient enough. This game has a somewhat long tutorial to teach you the skills you'll need to master, and the game itself can be somewhat tedious near the end of a run. There's also no story, if you are looking for a story driven game... Obviously.
