This is not like a regular MMO where the ultimate challenge lies in PvP, PvE-bosses or dungeons.
This game is about trying to increase your average item level and it gets exponentially harder (or grindier if you will) to increase it the higher it is.

Really, your time is spent on activities/grind so you get the resources you need for that next item upgrade. That's the only point of the game.

Also, there's RNG attached to every system in place for item upgrades (and there quite a few) unless you farm for an unreasonably long time (literally months in some cases) for an upgrade material that mitigates the risk - which you usually want when you luck out and get something good - otherwise you might "brick" your item and - for certain gear - destroy them entirely, setting you back to square one.

If like min-maxing and analyzing cost vs. risk this game may be for you. You're otherwise likely to hate this game or just get generally confused about what you're even supposed to accomplish (this will happen around lvl. 43-44).
