I'm having a lot of fun playing this game. Some things I really like: The ages are fun and I'm excited to keep exploring the implications. I really like the combination pop growth and tile improvement mechanic. I really like the happiness and celebration mechanics.

The game is by no means perfect. If you are reading negative reviews from other players, you should know that pretty much all of their criticisms are true and valid.

That being said, despite its flaws, I'm still having fun. I think if you look at the playtime of some of the people leaving negative reviews, you'd have to assume that they must be having fun too... or they are masochists.

A couple of flaws that have been pointed out that I want to tip my hat to: the UI has been simplified to an extent where some information that I would really like to see is hidden. If you are a casual gamer this probably won't bother you much, but as someone who enjoys digging deeper into the game systems, it definitely bothers me.

I also am not a fan of the DLC at launch monetization model. This game is certainly releasing in a more complete state than CIV 5 or CIV 6 did without the on release DLC, but it still rubs me the wrong way.

TLDR: Civ 7 is a game with some rather weird flaws but is ultimately very fun to play. If you are a 4x degenerate like myself, you will probably enjoy this game (although if you are too much of a 4x degenerate you may convince yourself that you don't enjoy it despite playing it like it's your full time job). Looking forward to watching it get better and better.

This game is not that hard!

It’s giving me hope seeing the steam reviews rise from 55% to 72% in the last couple days. Hopefully the game has started to find its target audience.

If you like other Rougelite Deckbuilders like Slay the Spire you will probably enjoy this game.

It is not a “story mode” game.

If you buy this game and lose repeatedly on the first encounter maybe this genre of game just isn’t for you… and that is okay. For people looking for a true to form Rougelite Deckbuilder, I do not believe that the balance is off at all. I am not a deckbuilding master and I won on my second try.

Hoping to see this game get more of the positive buzz that it deserves!
