Unplayable at medium settings on a decent PC, absolutely terrible. Denuvo is the dumbest crap ever.

I beat most of the bosses in this game, still working on it a few left. I would say play it how you want. I have seen people play as a naked guys with sticks, as paladins, warriors, samurai, rogues, ninjas, knights, healers. I personally play as pure mage, it can get really frustrating getting smacked around, but sometimes you line everything up properly and you just one-shot a boss, and it feels amazing.

It's good, it's a nice break after Endwalker, it's just a fun little adventure in paradise with twists, new jobs, new crafting, and great characters.

It gets better.

Now is the time to invest in VR if you haven't already, go get a used one, it's fine. This game runs flawlessly on the Vive and Oculus, I have tested both and of course the Index is the gold standard. It doesn't matter, you'll have fun now matter what your HMD is, this is the title you've been waiting for. Buy it, enjoy soaking up City 17's atmosphere the way they wanted to show you. If this product is successful we can count on HL3 being VR or Neuralink and an entirely different setting. They want to show you the arctic in a better engine that doesn't exist yet, HL2: EP3 was never going to look good in Source or Source 2. This looks good, but it can look better, I hope this is the new Valve and a sign of more to come. I bought it, I've played it, it's what I wanted. Thanks.
