This game never once failed to surprise, subvert, and excite at every turn. What I first assumed to be a Mil-Sim power fantasy branched out into so much more. The level design, mission variety and gameplay are all top notch. Perhaps the most impressive game to have been created by such a small team in recent memory. I could go into more detail, but its best to let the game speak for itself. Definitely worth your time and money.

following the disastrous launch, i kind of lost all hope with this dlc and the update that came with it. however, the biggest and most egregious bugs (physics and enemy spawns tied to framerate, final boss is unkillable, item highlights disappearing, etc) have been patched. while not all bugs have been fixed, i'm sure more have yet to be discovered, this is a massive step in the right direction. now that the game works properly again, i can absolutely recommend playing this dlc (and the base game itself). the new items added in the dlc are definitely disappointing and have no real place in the game's balance, but the new maps, soundtrack, and final boss are excellent, and a fresh take on risk of rain from a different team. on top of this, gearbox announced that they will be implementing more gameplay changes down the line, which i can only assume also means balance changes. rushing out an unfinished product always leaves a bad taste in players mouths, so you had better handle it well. i'm happy to announce that the (probably overworked) devs have definitely handled it. Combines everything I like about Bloodborne and everything I like about Sekiro and wraps it up into one neat package. I also feel a little bit of Resident Evil in there too. I was anticipating it to feel like a cheap knockoff at some points, but they even nailed the horrible "Poison Swamp x Dingy Wooden Scaffolding" area in every FromSoft game since Demon's Souls. While the first 3/4ths of the game are really enjoyable, my enjoyment takes a total nose-dive in the last few hours. Some annoying and generally disappointing bosses at the tail end of the game is what makes classics like the original Dark Souls not so fun to revisit, but none of them are truly egregious, save for one. Not too long, and not too difficult either. If you're itching for more From Software but you've played it all, I'd look here first. No masterpiece, but it's damn close, and sets a high bar for other "souls-likes" in the future. Solid 8.5/10

very very very very mid. gunplay is fine. never wowed me at any point. if you need an excuse to bloat your steam library even further, it goes on sale for about 5 dollars. 5 dollars for a few hours of amusement isn't bad, you'll get your enjoyment out of it and do something else. other than that it's generally just an underwhelming game. completely and utterly serviceable and that's all. 6/10

I bought this game a little over a year ago, played it for about 10 minutes and promptly forgot about it. Finally decided to give it a fair try this morning, and it has me completely hooked. Satisfying weapon combos and a massive, balanced arsenal allow for incredibly fun and diverse builds to be viable no matter the situation, making incredibly engaging runs where you play around the equipment you find, strategically using debuffs and maximizing your damage potential while running around like a maniac. It just seems to get fresher the more I play it, even though I have yet to reach the end once. Absolutely deserves a spot in a Roguelike Hall of Fame down the line. Signing off with 4 hours played, I could see myself putting another 40 in by next month. Congratulations French people for making such a good game.
