Where to begin where to begin on this game. If you're a fan of 4x grand strategy, or hell, any sci fi games, this is by far one of the best out there - the base game and mods surrounding it alone are astronomical - everything from a simple UI change to complete and utter overhauls that change the gameplay immensely. The vast amount of choices this game gives you is astronomical with how you govern an interstellar civilisation - and mods further expanding and improving on the game's diplomacy - New AI personalities for example adds a more diverse caste of empire opinions - from carefree hippies to total nutcases as opposed to a handful of bog standard empire types. It would take far too long to explain every tiny detail of this game - the DLC by far are certainly worth it, however the game length varies wildly - depending on what victory you are going for. I have to reccomend this, and suggest you get it with all the story DLC's and Utopia - they provide a much more interesting mid and late game. Good game, buy it.

Early Access Review
Right, now this is probably one of the few games which seem to understand what the hell Early Access is for - unlike the million and one DayZ and Minecraft clones out there, and the half baked Unity Asset flipping games that usually get pulled from steam after a month or two. Unlike those buggy games, stuck trying to live up to the glory of other, more successful titles, Rimworld is a game of substance and is quite a solid vanilla experience from what i have played so far - there is just some kind of sick satisfaction that I and i'm sure many other people get when they play this game, when you just let everything go wrong and watch your colonists destroy themselves - Pretty much, I'm saying this game is as evil as the Sims to some extent with how it lets you mess up people's lives.

One such example is when I messed up, not on purpose, with not getting food and cooking meals when i first started - people ate raw food and were all upset about it, and my colony had been suffering wave assaults of some pirate gang, so everyone was upset, because they had to kill people. One of my colonists then had a mental break, and went mad, starting lighting stuff on fire. This didn't end well as you'd expect - it burned down the colony, killing them - Their Lover then went nuts and started attacking people, then died to the pet Fox - as they already were badly wounded from burns in the fire. The last guy went nuts, started eating his friends' corpses before shooting themselves - game over.

I have to say that was probably one of the most satisfying moments, like how in Sim City you build it up, just to drop godzilla in there at some point, watching everything you worked for to be destroyed in a baptism of fire. It's some kind of unholy satisfaction. And that is why i love this game for that reason alone.

The gameplay itself is a little complex when you're first starting in vanilla - i've heard comparisons to it being a Simpler Dwarf Fortress - which is a title i've never played myself, yet i'm sure there' plenty of people who know what i'm talking about. But once you find your footing in this game, it becomes quite satisfying, mellow, and occasionally you get random moments of madness, with mad animals, raids, and other survivors running for their lives from tribals. and alot of other events that challenges the survival of your colony.

If you want to play a fun, challenging Colony simulator, that has a good amount of substance, even in early alpha, and can throw out some good stories to you, or you're a sick, twisted cynical prat like myself that enjoys watching little computer people suffer - This game is for you.
