Had the game, loved it for the most part. Had to reinstall the game recently, and now can't get it to download faster than 5mb/s on gigabit internet. Have spent hours trying all sorts of solutions. Would I recommend this game? Depends on whether or not you can install it. Probably not. Fix your installer Microsoft.

3.5/10 (with hype)

5.5-6/10 (standing on its own)

Very disappointing. Has enjoyable atmosphere though and decent, but forgettable storyline.

If you are expecting GTA bladerunner this is not it, the world is very empty and hollow feeling - everything cool is on rails / part of the story. Lots of questionable decisions, playability / comfort things left out, and signs that it was somehow rushed even after all this time. This game feels more like a Bethesda / Ubisoft title than CDPR (and is actually worse in a lot of ways). Outside of the main story and some side quests, there's really nothing to do and the enjoyable parts of the game are all contained within those missions, as it takes you to more interesting locations, etc. It's extremely on rails. The open world aspect feels like a way to let you drive between missions, but that's pretty much it.

The story itself is sort of interesting at first, although the rest of the gameplay itself had me pretty uninterested after about 20 hours or so. Bullet sponge enemies, little to no customization of your character (even ingame there is no way to change your physical appearance or cars paint job, etc) or weapons. Most of the armor you get when moshed together makes your character look like absolutely insane, and make's me glad it's in first person, although I think it'd been cooler in third. It also seems that some of the controversies surrounding the game took over more important game mechanics, e.g giving your character a ♥♥♥♥ with size options or whatever, but this stuff is all meaningless fluff since it never appears in the game. You can't get a haircut or really change your character in any way either.

On top of that, AI is completely non-existent or worse and all of them act the same way, say the same lines, etc. Cars and pedestrians pop in out of nowhere, glitch around, and other fun stuff. Most are not game ruining, but immersion ruining for sure. It feels almost like an early access game.

With all of that in mind I still think the atmosphere and world is cool, and there were redeemable parts of the story, so while I don't recommend it now, maybe waiting and picking it up on sale in the future if the story seems interesting to you (and if they will patch it up a bit) is not a bad idea.

The game is well made and pretty funny. Unfortunately it's really just a collection of the objects shown in the trailer floating around near your ship at this point in time. I don't see how it can be made much deeper than it is unless they rethink the map and some of the game systems (oxygen) entirely.

Probably the one game I always come back to in my library. It never gets old, always fun to pick up and play a few games with some friends.

Needs an FOV slider badly. Unbearable focal length and distance of camera to player. It's a shame, cause the gameplay is fun (albeit very repetitive).
